It is in music too, how long was it until people started realizing there is no "South Detroit" as referenced in the Journey song? It is all entertainment and sometimes people forget that, but don't worry there will always be nukes to point out all the inaccuracies for everyone LOL

Sorry, but anyone who went to the theater expecting a great work of art is a fucking idiot.
Stipulating it is all a matter individual taste, there is a huge gap between "art" and plebeian entertainment where most cinema resides. For my taste, TG2 barely met the base entertainment standard. Not because it wasn't accurate or realistic enough for me, but because seeing the story line, multiple scenes and characters simply lifted from the original was not entertaining to me. TG1 was more entertaining to me because it was new material. You can name dozens of sequels that were not carbon copies of the previous film, but simply carried on the original story into new territory. Why not for TG2?

Yeah I think this better gets to the heart of the real issue, and why I left feeling very underwhelmed

the worst thing that could have happened was showing the Tomcat in the trailer, made the plot way too obvious

also, the leaked pic of the F14 in the barricade on TR only confirmed the hunches about the plot

it would have been much cooler if that was a surprise in the movie

At the beginning when the aircrew was briefed that there were a few F-14s on the field, you knew Mav was going to fly one.

true, they had to make it overly obvious since most of the general public has no idea Iran has them

Haha MD, you look a lot like this reservist Targeteer we got part way through my last deployment. I remember passing him in the p way and instinctively calling him sir (assuming he was an O-6 or something), before realizing he was just the oldest LT in the navy. BZ on still fitting into that bag!

You knew Mav was going to fly one (or fight one) when it appeared airborne at the end of the trailer. :)

Or fight one? In keeping with your antique assessment and my interest in something different, the scene should have been Mav in Rhino shooting the lead of a section of enemy F-14s from 30+ miles leaving the wingman's RIO franticly looking at the radar for the bogie. Two turns after the merge Mav guns the Turkey without breaking a sweat while signing "You've lost that loving feeling." Fitting end, metaphorically and otherwise, to the Tomcat and the unrealistic nostalgic fanboys.

I don’t think guys like us were the target audience.
So, the target audience are people who don't mind seeing the same story, even scenes, replayed in a big budget highly hyped movie? It isn't like most folks haven't seen TG1 and recognize the lack of creativity.. The youngsters have streamed it or watched it on their parents old DVDs.

I had a similar thought. But realistic tactics doesn’t make for very good cinema. The “fight” between Mav and Goose 2.0? Totally fake looking and ridiculous to the eyes of an actual (former) Rhino guy.

I came to the conclusion before even walking in that I wasn’t the target audience, and gave the movie some rope based on that. It was watchable and entertaining from a “I-suspend-disbelief” standpoint, like a lot of Hollywood stuff. But it’s not going in my personal movie collection any time soon (TG1 isn’t, either).
