Only thing y’all did better with that is being single breasted. Most men look stupid in double breasted suits. Which is why in the name of equity I propose the Navy redesign the male SDB coat to be single breasted. It would align with all of the other services and women’s SDBs which are single breasted, not to mention equalize the fact I had to buy a fucking set of chokers.

My impression it is very much USCGA that's more military-ish.

Was home one year for Christmas and was invited to a fancy all service academy dinner/ball I got to take a great date to; she was totally unfamiliar with the military... yet she immediately recognized there was something different about the Farva-like USMMA characters in similar uniforms as I... My goodness they seemed so out of place it was hilarious.

Oddly enough, I sort of agree… I wasn’t cut from the same cloth, considering I went on to a full military career. But there were plenty of Farva types in my company. I had one roommate who couldn’t even do a pushup during plebe Indoc. He washed out later. Plenty of stories like that.

The changes of late have exacerbated those differences. As an alumnus, I’m not particularly happy with some of the decision making around USMMA.

Mundane stuff mostly- not worth a threadjack. They've relaxed a lot of the standards for schedule, fitness, etc. A lot of things tie back to the school's budget limitations and our political lack of give a fuck about the Merchant Marine in general.

Oddest one: a buddy told me recently that they allow MIDN to have dogs on campus. How on Earth does that work with a busy class/military schedule, to say nothing of Sea Year? Sounds inhumane for the animals, if you ask me.

But as a 20 year alum, I'm just an old man yelling at clouds now.

Am I the only one who thinks that if you're going to take a photo of a new uniform. shoes should be shined, buttons aligned and pointed the same direction, slacks should be pressed straight with a crisp hem, epaulettes should be pressed and flat, tie should be tight with no white showing above, the "officer" should not be smiling like a schoolboy on school picture day, and perhaps he should meet height weight standards and not be shaped like a beer barrel.

Then again, I'm looking through the lens of a Marine.
