Can someone help me find the CRAM Flashcards, looking to take my test here soon. If anyone has any other material that is helpful that you could send into this reply that would be huge.

If you get the anki flash card app there’s a deck on there called top 10 astb combined that I feel like was pretty good. Also liked it cuz u rank how well u feel like u knew the term and it will give u the card again later based on how well u know it.

Hey guys, I’ll be going to MEPs this weekend but I got sick yesterday. I’m slowly recovering but I’m worried. Do you think they would have disqualify me for something like that? I just have a sore throat now

First Attempt: 65 9/8/8

Just took the ASTB for the first time today and qualified for I-SEL.

OAR: 65
AQR: 9
PFAR: 8
FOFAR: 8
GPA: 3.86
Degree: BS Aerospace Engineering
Flight Hours: None

I graduated in May 2025 with my BS and am finishing my MS in May 2026 (both in Aerospace Engineering). While working over the summer I studied for about three weeks using the Barron's book, Gomez drive, miscellaneous Quizlets, and the Jantzen-Mike simulator. I will attach all the study material I used below. My largest strength was all of the Math, Mechanical comprehension, and understanding of aircraft from my degree and interests. By far my biggest weakness was the simulator as I have never played video games or had simulator experience before starting to study for this.

Math: Basic math including everything before pre-calculus and functions. Understand probability (ordered vs non-ordered lists), exponents, matrix multiplication, algebra, etc. The variety of questions that can be asked means memorization is close to futile, a basic understanding of concepts is necessary. Barron's helps and the Gomez drive has plenty of practice problems. Don't cheat yourself, be able to do everything with out notes or a calculator.

Reading: Not much studying was done for this, took both of the practice tests in Barron's and that was it. This study book puts a large emphasis on vocabulary that I think is unnecessary for the passages you'll see on the test. Like everyone else has said, these passages are all about the navy and extremely boring so do your best to keep focused. I would even read aloud to myself and try to keep moving when I started zoning out.

Mechanical: A good understanding of the basic laws of physics, moments, gears, pulleys, circuits, and fulcrum classes are a good start. I didn't see topics that weren't covered in the Barron's book or Gomez drive practice questions. Do all the questions you can get your hands on and research/learn the concepts if you don't understand them.

ANIT: There are so many possible things or topics that could be asked about here. As far as studying just do your best. Understand all the parts of an aircraft or ship and what they do. Definitions of vehicle performance terms, airport lights, and signs. I used the practice tests available, if I didn't know the answer I wrote it down. Biggest part of studying were the quizlets attached below.

PBM: Used the Jantzen-Mike simulator and UAV flashcards. I didn't use the ASTB prep app so I can't speak to studying for the terrain identification but I felt good about it on the test. If you think you are good at the UAV portion, practice more. Don't expect the test to be exactly like the simulator but it is good practice.

General tips: Don't let the nerves get to you, think through each question but don't linger if you don't know. I would say an educated guess is better than sitting on a question you don't know and still getting it wrong. During the PBM don't get frustrated, just keep everything going as well as you can. I did pushups and moved around between sections to get the nerves out as best as I could, brought carb snacks along and ate them as well. I didn't feel good about the test (especially the PBM) while I was taking it but I stuck it out and it paid off.

I'm always open to talk, will be moving on to MEPS (my biggest hurdle) ASAP and if that goes well I'll be sitting on my package until spring of 26. Best of luck with everyone's preparation, you've got this, fall in love with the material.

Does anybody have experience with/heard of SNAs getting through MEPS with previously having Cholesteatoma and/or a Mastoidectomy? These are two things they ask about on the Prescreening form.

Have you looked thru the NAMI waiver guide? There’s probably info on it there

Edit: here’s a link to the current waiver guide. There’s a section on what you’re asking about but I didn’t look too deep into it

Just took the ASTB for the first time. I barely studied, and I know what I need to do if I retest.
I'm going for SNA > SNFO.
I have a 3.33 GPA Aerospace Engineering.

OAR 42
AQR 4
PFAR 7
FOFAR 5
LCAC 70

Got these scores while being sick, and with a broken headset.
My recruiter is new since Februrary and has only boarded 5 people. He thinks my scores are fine, and he doesn't think I need to retest.
Will I get accepted for SNA or SNFO with these scores? If you reply, please also note your sources for why/why not. Thanks!

Does anyone know if I should be memorizing any geometry formulas/equations for the math section of the ASTB. Or should I rely on the test giving me the necessary equations on the formula sheet?
I just took it today, and I never had to rely on an equation I had memorized. The formula sheet had area, circumference, volume, of basic shapes. However, they don't give you algebra rules, such as (x^n)^m = x^(nm).

Personal anecdote:

The first time I took the ASTB, I got 56/7/5/6 and applied for SNFO (Mechanical Engineering degree, 3.069 GPA). Didn’t get picked up.

Two retakes and an eye surgery later, I applied for SNA with a 73/9/7/7. Got picked up on the OCT 2022 board with the lowest select rate in recent years (to my knowledge).

The general consensus points to PFAR/FOFAR being the biggest deciding factors in selection, but that’s not to say the other scores aren’t important.

Personally, I would do one more retake in good health and with working equipment. Your scores do meet the minimums, so you could try for it if you wanna give it a shot

Did they ever explain to you why you didn’t get picked up? Your score is pretty good?
