What kills me is when I was told "we don't have money for gas" when each Turkey was dumping what I could fly for 2-3 hours on just to get aboard.

Never had a carrier turn down my plea for "free" gas in order to get their extra PMC run in at the end of a quarter. V-4 skims far more in a day than we could ever use. It messes with your actual CPH but as long as you didn't drive yourself into an inspection window that you weren't expecting/couldn't deal with it was all good...

60s are around $200/hr in gas IIRC.

If a Navy 53 fills up at a civilian FBO, then we are looking at almost $12000. I suppose that is why contract fuel is highly encouraged.

Damn! Really? Suprised because the T-34 burns better than half of that at cruise. At max blast its around 150$...

Is that at current civie fuel costs? At $4 and change that would have you at about 35 gph. Seems a little low for max power...

300PPH ~= 44GPH

The gas price you see on the pump is NOT what we pay. That's also why we use contract gas.

Most up to date I can find is $0.96 per gallon for Commercial Jet-A into plane..

So about $42/hr for gas.

Oh. I was thinking more in the realm of "If I owned a -34 charlie this is what it'd cost me in fuel." I thought fuel weighed 6 lbs. per gallon? Does Jet A weigh more?

6.8 pounds per gallon on average.. JP-5 and JP-8 have slightly different densities.

T-34 takes jet A, although they may be able to get away from having to use the A+ with the icing inhibitor thingamajig...

Amazing how the T-34 has nearly the same fuel flow (since it's so low anyhow) at altitude that it does at sea level. It's not unheard of to see splits of 300 pph between the two motors...

Holy crap! So the Navy pays less than 25% of what Joe Schmucketeli pays for it? Seems like someone would be loosing ALOT of money in that deal.

DOD is the single biggest consumer of petroleum in the USA. BIIIIG buying/negotiation power. Think Wal-Mart on steroids.

It always amazes me that the minimum gas we can be on top with is nearly 1000 gallons!
