Some possible long term effects of the Covid virus could be increased protectionism / and/or reshoring of industry to North America and Mexico. Both Zeihan on Geopolitics analysts and Ian Bremmer's Eurasiagroup seem to think the same thing.

In summary, all the 455 contacts were excluded from SARS-CoV-2 infection and we conclude that the infectivity of some asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 carriers might be weak.

If that’s the case, it blows argument for masks to bits and could change a lot of assumptions about our response so far.

Interesting case, but it was exposure to one single asymptomatic carrier. One individual person.
 
I was in SFO airport this morning on my way to my daughter’s. I was talking on my phone when I saw it was Nancy Pelosi ahead of me in line. So I said into my phone “this lockdown is ridiculous, at least the red states are showing common sense”... her secret service agent quickly step between us. I let it go after that. Point made.

I will admit she was being nice to her 2 agents, offering to buy them stuff. She tipped well too.

I guess her “private” government plane wasn’t available.

Just googled it. DHS security officers for her and a few other congressional leaders. Captial Police are federal officers whose job includes protecting members of Congress but a few get higher level protection. Not sure if Capital Police are DHS and providing it or not.

Capitol Police are an arm of the Legislative Branch, reporting to a board composed of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, House Sergeant-at-Arms, Architect of the Capitol, and Congress.

There are practical and ceremonial purposes of this. Namely, to give the Legislative Branch control of its own security, keep funding in the Legislative Branch, and prevent a coup or coercion against the Legislative Branch by the Executive Branch.

I didn't realize DHS was also providing security detail now, too. I guess they figured separation of branches didn't really matter/ low chance of coup.
