The AI-pocalypse

I've been thinking about asking an AI to earn me a billion dollars in the market, I figure it just needs to invest in battery cars, use cyber-hacking of the automation in fossil fuel car factories to cause the robots and machine tools to all destroy themselves, and reap the windfall. But that's just me. I expect it would have a better idea.
Sounds illegal. Even if it didn't do this 'wet work' you're describing, perhaps it could do something less physically destructive but just as illegal if a person were doing it, like finding insider information on which to base a trade. I wonder who would be held responsible, you as the AI's client, the AI itself, the company that made the AI, or all of the above?

Responsibility should fall on the humans behind the AI- developers, if they created a system that disregards legal limits, and end-users, if they instructed or modified a system to commit a crime.

Like most things in our criminal justice system, it probably comes down to your net worth and ability to hire a competent legal team. Make $1B before you get caught, and you're probably fine. Get caught early on, and you'll be thrown in jail as an example to other upstart poors not to get their hopes up.

It could do the analogy of "classification by compilation" and look at the whole of everything, figure it out without officially breaking a law.

Probably already are. A lot of money to be made.

Saw this quote from a philosopher guy who looks at AI, my bold.

...But what the machines are often good at is a distinct set of tasks: Retrieval, near-instant summary and the frictionless, stunning recombination of everything that has already been said."
