i recently had a flight physical up at whidbey island and the optometrist said that i had 20/20 vision but a little help from glasses while i am flying might be required. do any of you pilots have this same thing going on? do you think it might slow me down from being selected for pilot???? the flight physical and doc said that i am fit to be a pilot but what do you guys think???? It is getting close to submission for my ocs package maybe a month left or so. can't wait.

thanks for your inputs!!!!

From what I understand, the deal is no worse than 20/40 in each eye, correctable (glasses/contacts/PRK) to 20/20. I wear glasses too.

Even the main guy representing naval aviators on www.navy.com has glasses on.. not that I'd take his word for it.

In Bogey's defense (don't get used to it buddy...) there have been a few wanna-be's posting things in the Jet forum lately that have absolutely nothing to do with jets.

I've been flying for about 10 years, and started with 20/10 in each eye. After flight school, I also had 20/20 but was recommended to wear glasses particularly at night and at the boat. My last physical, I dropped to 20/30 in one eye and now required to wear them for flying.

As long as you are correctable 20/20, you're in. But realize your vision will degrade over time. So even if you are 20/20 now, get used to flying with them on because they will help throughout training. Besides, everytime you say you lost them, they issue another set of flying glasses, reading galsses, and the highly coveted and extremely gay-looking aviator sunglasses.

That same swarthy old optomotrist told me the very same thing about 3 years back when I went into the NASWI center for my 1st flight physical. To echo what some others have said, when I did my API check-in eye test a couple years later, my eyes had degraded to ~ 20/30. So just keep that in mind, but if you get "in" in a reasonable amount of time you should be ok.

Unfortunetly, you'll never qualify jets. Have to be 20/20 uncorrected....with blue eyes mind you. If you have blue eyes but not 20/20, good chance you can be an NFO and fly in jets. Otherwise, might be SOL buddy.

He's not kidding. I had to wear color contacts just to get this far.

They are the same frames you get for your clear lenses. If you want the standard aviator ones, they'll come stock. I've never ordered tinted lens frames, but I think you can get the custom frames in tinted as well.
