2023 Anthropometric Measurements

Hi Folks,

I have been going through the forms and have been looking for up to date anthropometric measurements for various trainers and tactical aircraft and was only finding outdated information from 2001. Here is an up to date NAVAIRINST 3710.1 circulated 1/2023.

I got this from the anthro department down in Pensacola. This should help give an understanding about compatibility with different aircraft.

As someone who was forced to redez to NFO because the TH-57 was too small, it’s great to see that the 73 basically allows 6’5”+ people to now satisfy the 2 pipeline minimum a little easier. Now do the same to the T-45.

This is the best news in my life. TH-73 is making my dreams come true. I am a 6’6 and have been practicing scrunching down to meet minimum requirements (my SH is at like 40) for 2 pipelines but I am so glad I don’t have to worry about that anymore.

I wouldn’t try and scrunch. I made it through ROTC Anthro by doing that, however the anthro folks in pensacola (that everyone must see no matter what) will absolutely not let you slouch whatsoever. I’ve made my peace with it now (with occasional sad boi flashbacks).

Me too. Make sure you relax your butt when youre in the seat. I came in and remain super into jets but its P-8A or Helo for me - selection approaching but not sure which.

That’s just good advice for life. Except for when there are gs I guess.

Any tips for dropping 3/4 of an inch or so in that case? I am gonna try the backpack full of rocks method but if there’s any other more effective methods I would love to know

Or hopefully by the time I make it through primary, which from my calculations would be 4-6 years during the backup, I will pray that they finally have a couple of the new T-45 replacements up and running

For what its worth, I do still believe that anthro limits are there to save your life. You might "beat it" now, but you'll definitely lose the ejection/egress game should that horrible event ever actually happen. As for shortening yourself, the human body lengthens about 1/2" overnight as you relax, so 3/4" would require something that would possibly do more harm than good to your spine. They also take the test first thing in the morning for what thats worth. Trust me, every few months I have flashbacks thinking "what if I just stood up all night and didn't lay down the night before?"

Hopefully I’ll figure it out. Also I don’t think they would be able to tell the difference between me sitting up as straight as I can like I’m stretching and me sitting up straight and not slouching. Maybe even put my shoulders back and scoot my butt forward just a little bit. I understand that sitting height has a max limit so I can be safely under the canopy breaker for the T-45, but in the case of an ejection, isn’t it highly unlikely that the canopy wouldn’t jettison?

It's highly unlikely that the canopy would jettison. In a T-45 ejection sequence, the canopy fractures via det-cord, and you go out through the hole. If the MDC doesn't work, your seat creates the hole via the canopy breaker. If your head hits first, you're getting shorter in a hurry.

If they are like you as they were for me, they will put their hand on your back and force you to sit “correct” like you’d see in old tv shows if they think you are slouching.
