Hey everybody. Just wanted to see how y'all were doing progress wise in preparation for October 26th.

How many miles are you running per week, and what kind of diet are you eating? Any tips on improving cardio that have helped you?

Are any of you studying your Appendix B knowledge?
Hey Ignotti,

For context I’m 23yo, 5’11”, 155lb, more on the skinny side.

I started running mid-June and have been putting in anywhere from 6-15 miles of running a week. Shoe type (I’m using and planning on bringing my asics novablast 5s) and variation in running strategy (length versus intervals) is what’s allowing me to gain some time on the run without harming my legs too much. Currently running the 1.5 mile at a consistent 13 min 7 seconds. Biggest advice is that your mind gives up before your legs do.

For die I am going purely off protein intake and calories since I’m active ever single day I’m more trying to make sure I’m getting enough protein for repair and calories for energy, rather than focused on completely clean eating.

I see you didn’t ask about push ups but I will still share what got me from 5 pushups a month ago to 35 right now. I wake up and do 3 sets of my max - 10, and repeat at the end of the day. Also counting 1-10 and resetting count to 1 removes the pressure of saying 20…30…etc in my head.

Appendix bravo knowledge looks like a lot but can be broken down to digestible bricks of knowledge. Call me old fashioned but I have went through 2 notebooks already simply writing the words over and over. Did this so far for the general orders of a sentry, mission of the navy, and currently working on code of conduct.

TL;DR
Break everything down into smaller processes and repeat them.

(PS. We got this, keep grinding friend)

Great tips man. Thanks for your input for real.

Pushups I'm not too worried about, but the run for sure I've been open to any and all advice to improve slowly.

I've been increasing my weekly mileage as well (about 10+ the past 4 weeks) and actually just started running twice a day Thursday which helped me hit 14 miles for the first time this week.

I also just managed to go for 2 miles non-stop for the first time last night which I'm super excited about.

I think doubling up on runs per day is increasing the load my body and heart can take from cardio a lot quicker. To prevent injury though, I'm eating and drinking extra protein like you mentioned. I'm also starting to load up on more pasta for extra energy.

My best run time is a 9:33 mile but at that pace, I get too gassed to push for the 1.5 mile mark. That's why I've been focusing on increasing my physical and cardiovascular load daily. OCS is right around the corner so I really wanna make the cut.

Just gonna keep pushing myself & hopefully by September the running will be a cake walk for me and I can devote some more time to studying Bravo.

I've got a few packets that I had been studying and highlighting at work the past couple months but I started to focus more on my physicality and stopped thinking about it since I'm quick learner and can make up for the academics later.

Never had a problem with memorizing and retaining information before so I don't think it'll be too much of a problem if I grant myself all of September to dig back into Bravo. I'm just really big on maxing out my physical limits for now and I don't want to split my focus until the pft minimums feel easy to me rather than just achievable.

What's up everyone IS2 Sanchez also originally from south Florida, currently stationed in Nevada. I don’t see any in this thread so far, are there any other prior enlisted in this class? Let me know if anyone has any questions, happy to answer.

Try doing longer zone 2 runs to build your aerobic base then sprinkle in some tempo runs every few days or so. If it helps, try going on walks to cooldown and get steps in.

Above all, listen to your body. If your knee is starting to feel weird after pushing yourself, maybe don’t see if you can push thru and move on to something low impact but sustainable like rowing or cycling
