Vice Admiral Fox is a Mig-21 (F-7) killer correct?

Vice Admiral Gortney is the son of (then) CDR Bill Gortney, CO VA-93 an A-4C Sqdn @ NAS Lemoore back in the early 60s.

Everything I have seen said it was a Russian-made MiG-21 and not a Chinese-made F-7.

I wonder how far VADM Fox goes.

At that level, so much depends on the White House opinion so who know....

Flew with both on the Truman. I always liked Shortney. Told it like it was. Same goes for VADM Fox. Another great guy with a great story about his Mig kill. Great arrows in his Mig Kill story. Drove our patch wearers bat shit. It was great.

There's a pretty good account of his Mig shoot-down in the first few pages of "Bogeys and Bandits." Would love to read more about that mission, if there's anything out there.

I wonder how far VADM Fox goes.
Seeing as how he was CAPT Fox only 3 years ago, I'd say he's on track to get promoted again...
He is an awesome leader and very easy guy to talk to. And he validated the self-escort strike fighter concept so he's got that going for him.

Ah, I remember coming across this once. I might have to finally get it now. Thanks!

"Quizmo's" research is top notch and he got the individuals involved to tell the story of their engagements consistently, which is no mean feat at all. Being a F-15E Strike Eagle pilot with a feel for history (he is also secretary of the "River Rats"), he knew what to ask and put it all together for the most discerning audience: fellow aircrew.
