A Few Questions

Good Afternoon,

I was pro-rec'd for Supply back in March. After obtaining a few medical waivers I have finally received word from my OR that I have a final select letter as of August 30th, however it is waiting to be signed and therefore no date available atm. I was looking for feedback from the experienced members of this site on how long it might take for me to get a date if it is at all possible to tell. Also, I am interested in doing my first tour on a Submarine, however I had childhood asthma and had to obtain a waiver for it (no waivers are considered for asthma for subs). I was curious if there is a way for medical to remove asthma as a permanent disqualification because I did not have any symptoms on asthma for years before my 12th birthday. The reason they know I even had asthma was because my mom continued to check the box next to asthma on school and doctors physicals not realizing the future impact of it. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you all in advance.

I'm far from an experienced member having only made a few posts here, however I might be able to provide some insight into the Final Select process. I was originally Pro-Rec'd in September of 2010 and and received my Final Select letter in February of 2011 - so in my case it took about five/six months to get my first date.

I say first date because I have received three date changes since February - which, given how a lot of the contributors to this forum describe the current recruiting and training pipelines makes a lot of sense. With a large number of applicants and budget concerns constantly looming OCS seems squeezed. Hopefully your letter will get signed imminently and you can keep your 30AUG date, but be aware that delays in attending OCS have become normal - most FS'd candidates I've spoken with have at least one date change, if not two or three. Best of luck.

Thank you for your insight. To clarify, I don't have a date yet. August 30th is the day my final select was put into the system.

They only do them once a month, and it's towards the end of the month. So at a minimum you've got a week or two to wait.
