Active Duty Enlisted

Coldnavy

CTO1 to IW Officer
After doing some extensive reading on this board, I can see that there are a few of us on here who are active duty seeking to apply to OCS (ß CTO1 here). My question is how much consideration is given to active duty sailors? I know all depends on the over all strength of your package, but is there any extra given to those who on active duty?

Just look for some insight!

Thanks
Scott

Coldnavy I'm also active duty I'm an AW1. I think the consideration is driven by the needs of the Navy like everything else. I could be wrong but I'd like to know for sure too. I see your also in Pensacola like me. I'm an instructor at the Aircrew School, I'm assuming your at Corry being a CT. Anyway Welcome Aboard.

Yeah, I'm here at Corry.

Here is another question for you. Did you go through an Officer Recruiter or through your CCC to submit your package?

I went through my CCC. He was about 0 help though. The best advice I have for you is to get the OPNAVINST 1420.1A and it will tell you everything you need to know. Is your package ready to go or are you just starting the process?

If you're active duty the recruiter won't be able to help you, though he might give you some tips. Getting familiar with the 1420.1A is solid advice. Keep in mind that you are the one seeking a commission, so you are the one who will have to do all the leg work. Your CCC should just be a liason between you and PERS for 1306/7s, detailers, etc.

One item I will stress is that you must do your own homework. The Officers considering you for a commission will expect it, and chances are, if you want your package assembled and submitted correctly, you will have to do it yourself. I should caveat this by saying that I never applied to Navy OCS, but instead worked an early-out as an AT1 and went to Marine Corps OCS. Though my situation was unique, I was surprised how little my CCs knew about Officer programs in general (except one awesome NCC who got my release approved). In short, study up and good luck.

Cheers,
-Paul
