Advice for OCS

Hi. My husband is currently in OCS and I was wondering if I could get some feedback/advice for those who have gone through OCS or are currently going through OCS. What did you find helpful from friends, spouses, family members? What did you find harmful? Any advice is welcome.

DON'T send him geedunk (junk food), panties, naked pictures and the like....not that I would know or anything about that (Damn you MB!)

Just send him letters. Let him know you're there for him. Mail call was probably the best part of the day, and when someone SAYS they're going to write and don't, Mail call sucks... Make his day!

Letters in plain-type envelopes as often as you could. Some guys in my class would get 2-3 a day from family. Letters from loved ones definitely go a long way to making the suck not so bad. Also try to make it to his Dining Out because he may get some liberty. During the last few weeks as a Candidate Officer I knew some guys who flew their wives in, put them up in the Navy lodge and managed to get at least one meal together a day while also staying with them every night.

Send him envelopes with LOTS of stickers and colors!

Send him boxes of cookies and other geedunk!

Do NOT send naked pictures, that would be bad. But the others are good. Yes, he'll have to pump out a few more pushups and yes he'll likely end up eating a bunch of cookies at once but it is FUNNY. It builds camaraderie with his fellow candidates. It provides a very good relief through humor. Getting pushed for stuff like that does not suck nearly as much as having to push for most other things. And really, when you laugh while you're pushing, it makes pushing for other reasons not as bad. I dunno why, but it works. He WILL laugh about it, maybe at a later date, but he will laugh.
