Hello all, first post so hang with me....

I understand you cannot reach your 27th birthday before graduating OCS to select SNA, are there age waivers available for this? I'm 27 now and have 9 months before i turn 28.

Secondly, if i cannot select SNA what are the chances of being picked up as a NFO, and then during or after API attempting to switch designators...i understand for current military there is a 48 month window for the age waiver?

My brother is a F18 pilot in the Navy and i really feel that this is the direction i need to go in my life to be happy and to serve my country.

Thanks for the advice,

Slim to none - sorry. The 48 month age waiver for prior enlisted service is based on time served. Serving 12 months gets you 12 months worth of waiverable time. You don't get 48 months in one fell swoop. Also, your chances of getting a designator change at any point in your career are probably less than 1 percent.

Part of the less than 1%...yeah baby!

What Brett says is dead on...but if you are looking to serve there is nothing wrong with going in as an NFO...they have fun too...I originally comissioned as an SNFO and talked so much shit about pilots it was ridiculous. They are as tight knit of a group as we are and generally all of the officers (except for SWO) are pretty cool to each other.

If you are looking to serve you country, find what you can best do to serve them, not what serves your interests. If that means being a Fo or an IT/IP/IW type, or even, God forbid, a SWO, than do it. If you just want to fly planes then Embry Riddle is down the street from me, I can get you the website.

Appreciate any assistance

So in my case, I am 26yo and am 27 on 08/04. I am going into BDCP in June and I heard you get credit for time served... I will graduate in no longer than 48 months from my 27th birthday. In your infinite wisdom, do you think they will give me a waiver to apply for SNA? I took ASTB last week got AQR-7/ PFAR-8/ FOFAR-7/ OAR-53 My other choices are Intel, Nuclear Subs, SWO... and why cant i apply for Special Operations?
Thank you guys for any help you can offer!!

If they know that one of your choices is Sub Nuke, not a chance in hell. Sub Nuke is in such high demand that if you have the brains, they'll do anything they can to get you into that program.

I'm pretty sure that if you required an age waiver just coming in off the street for OCS, there would be little or no chance. However, I'm not sure how BDCP changes that, if any. Maybe there is someone on here with such experience.
