does anybody have a scanned version of the Marines Air contract. I would like to take some time in reading any fine print.

would it be legal to post something like that?

"Push the stick foward, the houses get bigger; pull back, the houses get smaller... unless you keep pulling back, then they get bigger again."

I'm not sure if something like that is legal or not... What I DO know is legal is for you to just ask your OSO to see a copy of it. Just say you wanted to review it and read all the fine print. I don't think he will look down on you or question your motivation for doing so.

Your OSO should have read the entire contract with you when you were contracting and signing/initialing the different sections.

right, well I havent submitted my package yet. I just have the harsh reality that flight school will be especially difficult for people with non technical majors. I am curious as to what are my options in the Marines if I do not complete flight school.

I figured it was alright to post an air contract, with the assumption all contracts have the same written content.

Well... for your information, if you finish TBS, and are unable to complete flight school, you are reassigned a new MOS based on the needs of the USMC. This MOS could end up being anything, but from what I hear, it tends to be the MOS's that people don't generally want like supply and administration.

If you decide you want to drop your contract early, and don't want to even try flight school, you could always go to TBS and drop your air contract, and then compete for another MOS that you would want.

I could have sworn my recruiter said that if a person is not sucessful in flight school he or she may return to civilian life.

Yeah, they return to civilian life just as soon as their ground contract is up.

Umm... No. The air contract is not a contract with the Marines that they'll let you fly and that's it. It's a commitment to the Marine Corps on your part and a commitment on their part that they will send you to flight school. That's it. If you don't make it through flight school the contract IS NOT null and void. You simply go to a ground job, which is a 4 year contract from when you are commisioned.

However, it is always an option to resign a commision. It's not a good idea by any stretch of the imagination, and they don't have to accept your resignation, but generally speaking the Marine Corps doesn't want officers around who don't want to be around. So yes, YOU can break your contract if you so desire, but that's exactly what it is, breaking a contract, and a terrible idea.

And another thing, why are you under the impression that flight school would be so difficult without a technical degree? That's just silly. My buddy flew Hornets with a damn philosophy degree. I've met Marine aviators with degrees ranging from P.E. to art to communications to business finance. Personally I am a Political Science major and I don't anticipate any problems in flight school technical wise. That's what the ATSB is for. Figuring out if they can teach you to fly. They aren't teaching you to design and build airplanes, just fly them.

You should be able to get through flight school just fine without a technical degree. You need to know what is going on and how your aircraft operates, but you dont need to design and build it.

The Marines are not going to try to screw you out of your shot at flight school, but you have to be able to hack it. They're not going to put pressure on the instructors to fail you.
