Umm... No. The air contract is not a contract with the Marines that they'll let you fly and that's it. It's a commitment to the Marine Corps on your part and a commitment on their part that they will send you to flight school. That's it. If you don't make it through flight school the contract
IS NOT null and void. You simply go to a ground job, which is a 4 year contract from when you are commisioned.
However, it is always an option to resign a commision. It's not a good idea by any stretch of the imagination, and they don't have to accept your resignation, but generally speaking the Marine Corps doesn't want officers around who don't want to be around. So yes,
YOU can break your contract if you so desire, but that's exactly what it is, breaking a contract, and a terrible idea.
And another thing, why are you under the impression that flight school would be so difficult without a technical degree? That's just silly. My buddy flew Hornets with a damn philosophy degree. I've met Marine aviators with degrees ranging from P.E. to art to communications to business finance. Personally I am a Political Science major and I don't anticipate any problems in flight school technical wise. That's what the ATSB is for. Figuring out if they can teach you to fly. They aren't teaching you to design and build airplanes, just fly them.
