I heard that they cut down the number of air contracts for this summers occ to 10 total (west of the mississippi). Has anyone else heard this?

My OSO told me there are NO air slots this summer. I had dual contracted for ground & air, then had the air one pulled when the word came down.

Well I hope that is not true. My OSO told me that there are still slots and that everything looks good assuming my final PFT score is good...who knows.

My oso told me it was for just west of the mississippi, i'm not sure about any other place, there could be more elsewhere.

I recommend moving west of the Mississippi. Flight school is awesome cruise forms are worth it. Good to be a Marine. You can always compete for an air slot at TBS but NO garantee.

Do PLC'ers compete for those slots as well, or are they already counted in?

I would be skeptical of any concrete numbers. My OSO says nobody really knows the final number of slots except the selection board. Even then, they sometimes don't know until they actually meet. In any case, everything is changable until the selection is made and all the papers are signed.

It's my understanding PLC'ers compete for separate slots than OCC'ers.

As for air slots, I am west of the Mississippi, in the 8th district. Maybe things have changed- & I hope y'all are right, but my OSO told me there are NO slots whatsoever for 186. Hmmm, I pt with him tomorrow, so I'll see what he says then.

My OSO hasn't said anything about there being no slots for 186, just that they were cut down. He told me i could sign a ground contract as well if I wanted to, but that I could not switch to air if I got the ground contract. I'm hoping that with my pft scores, my gpa and my recommendations that I will still get accepted on the air contract for June, if not I will have to wait until October.

like towbubba said, even if you get a ground contract and get commissioned with it, you can select 7599 at TBS so long as you are medically qualified and have acceptable ASTB scores.

I went to TBS with a ground contract and selected 7599 during the MOS "selection." It can be done, but there is no guarantee that your company will have any pilot slots.

What is 7599? I don't want to take the chance that I will get a flight slot at TBS. I want to be a Marine, and I want to be a pilot almost as bad. So I if I don't get selected for this summer I will see if I can get contracted for October.

7599 is the MOS identifier for Student Naval Aviator. All MOS's in the Marine Corps have a 4-digit identifier.

eg:
infantry - 03xx
snfo - 7580
etc...
