Different time/place -- same idea.

When I was going through training, one of our STUDs shot a cow -- that probably presented a threat, I am sure --- with a 2.75" FFAR on an armed G-Route -- don't ask me why ... mebbe a "target of opportunity??" We used to fly G-Routes (low level stage) and then hit Yankee or Dixie targets with 20mm, 2.75's, or Blue Death .... a GREAT training evolution for all and eagerly anticipated by Instructors and STUDs!!!

Of course, the severely inflated cow now became prize Santa Gertrudis stock when the farmer/rancher unceremoniously dumped the cow (now resembling a blowfish) at the front gate to make his point ....

CNATRA "bought" the cow -- don't know if any steaks ended up on the Admiral's dining table -- and "they" dropped the "armed" portion of the G-Routes after that incident. Too bad -- "they" should have just hammered the particular STUD in question. I guess "they" figured the rest of us could not understand the phrase ... "don't shoot the cows..."

No sh!t “goats” we never had any of this modern stuff when I was in the fleet. Now, I know, I know, it was a few years back. Just think, we’d work on a “bird” for days to find problems. Nope… we never had any goats in the tool crib. Damned navy… they never kept up with the times.
