All OCS SWO - HELP!

Hello All,

I am an IP Officer working on a project with the goal of predicting the likelihood that college graduates will apply to OCS as SWOs. Even if it was not your first choice I would appreciate your help.

I am looking for non-commissioned individuals that have applied or intend to apply to OCS as SWO being one of your options. Please no individuals that have attended even a single day of OCS.

You would be required to complete a short 5 minute online questionnaire and no personal information is required from you.

Please private message me and we can coordinate setting you up with the online questionnaire. The more input I can get the better.

Thank you in advance for your help,
IPDino

Take the number of OCS SWO applicants each year over the past 5-10 years. Divide each year by the number of college graduates each year. Average that all together. There's your rough answer.

42%?

I have added a bit to my profile, but I will add a bit more over the next day or two.

What I am really interested in is determining (by data mining) if there are specific questions off the questionnaire that may be used to determine SWO applicants to OCS.

I wish I could have just done that division and call it a project. My life would be awesome.

I'm sorry, but this all seems like a gigantic waste of time.

Firstly, this is an aviation site, so the amount of wannabe SWOs is going to be lacking. Secondly, anyone who finds your questionairre via the internet is already going to be interested in an officer program. People who are currently in college, or people who have a college degree and working/not working elsewhere, are not taking your survey. Thirdly, even if you could predict if someone would apply SWO based on a questionairre, why bother? Are you going to go to universities to interrupt their classes to hand out some survey so that you might be able to predict the number of people who might come to an OR the next year?

SWO's go to OCS as SWO's because it was one of the checks in the box in the application. If it wasn't their first choice maybe A) They didn't seem to fit what that community was looking for... reasons including ASTB score, medical history, and many other variables. B) There were no slots available other than their SWO choice.

There are no "buzz words" on an application where people go..."Yep, that's SWO material". Often times people walk in and want to be a SWO, or they don't know anything about the Navy and for many reasons previously discussed, the recruiter might say "Surface Warfare may be a good option" so they go that route.

I think he's referring to his questionnaire, not the application

Unless Mr IP is doing this for Big Navy (improbable at best), then this is all irrelevant and a waste of everyone's time - especially the OP. Perhaps the IP/OP could elaborate.

Huh? How is any of that relevant and why does it matter?

Yeah this project is not funded by the Navy in any way. It is just a data mining project, which I put a little more thought into from some of your comments.

I decided to change its premise somewhat and instead of just concentrating on SWOs it would make a little more sense to determine why someone joined OCS period (instead of just a SWO) vice not joining at all.

In other words, anyone that is just about to join OCS or intending to apply to OCS could complete the questionnaire. Please send me a PM and those that have already ... Thanks.

In all honest maybe the project would turn out to be a waste of time if the data mining algorithms determine there is no relevance in the users responses. That is something I would like to examine further.

I would be willing to field any other questions. Also, thanks for your inputs so far as it has helped me change the project somewhat.
