Hello

I'm Interested in a Marine Air contract for SNA. I'm still a Junior in high school and will become a resident this year and will most likely apply for citizenship on my last year of college. Also my vision -1.00 on my left and -1.50 on the other. Can i still apply for it on my senior year of high school?

thank you

For now you're non-qualified

(Aside from the obvious citizenship requirements) you CAN'T apply for any commissioning programs until you're in college!

so anybody have any tips as to what to do in my situation? Whats the best route to take? Thanks for the info bbop I had heard different things about applying.

Talk to a recruiter. There is not a lot you can do right now, but the sooner you start the road to PLC, the easier it will be. The absolute best things you can do right now are get good grades in high school, participate in activities, get a decent SAT, and get your citizenship.

In order to become an aviator, you will first have to get a college degree. The Corps can help you do that.

My prescription is -1.50 in both eyes...that means that I have about 20/100 vision...thus, I could not apply for pilot...so I went NFO...PRK is an option though...I don't know how old the Docs want you to be before they will operate though...If this is what you want to do, try to get into an ROTC program in college...or a JROTC program, if your high school offers one...FYI

Hmm . . . interesting. I was -2 and -1.75 and had 20/200 vision before I got PRK. I suppose an eye doctor would be the one to translate diopters to 20/whatever.

<tangent>As for PRK, there's a whole forum on it but I think they're just concerned that your prescription has remained stable. </tangent>

I don't think that the Diops translate directly like that. there are alot of other factors too.
