OCC 186 Bound
All right y'all I would like to hear your thoughts (Especially from Officers in the **** right now) on my situation. Due to my recent non-select situation, I've been reevaluating my plans and looking at my options in case I'm never accepted to OCS (I will reapply).

Currently I have a very cool job: my boss is one of my best friends, I make decent money, lots of travel, I get to hang out with movie stars-seriously (The hot female ones, of course

), and have loads of fun.

Cons: work is unsteady, no real benefits, not much room to grow and build solid career (I don't think). And the work is unfulfilling, but fun as hell-and I can leave whenever I want.

Or as an Officer:

Pros: Fulfilling Career, stability, pride, get to blow stuff up, etc.

Cons: Get shot at, family separations, deployments to ****holes, loss of some freedoms, life ain't my own, etc.

Everyone tells me I'm crazy to leave the gig I have to join the Marines, including Marines (Enlisted guys). I know there will be a lot of hardships, but I think its an honorable career-and feel its my duty to serve in our nations time of need. I've always wanted to be an Officer, but I have very cool opportunities on the outside also.

I guess I'm answering my own question here, and I know only I know what I really want, but do any of you Officers think I'm nuts to leave what I have going for me for the hardships of the Military? I have a unique, exciting job- would any of you leave your Commissions to party around the world with world-class beauties? (Dumb question? lol)

I mean no offense to anyone, as I know you're all committed to what you do. And I want it bad also--but maybe I'm romanticising the Marines too much. That's why I'd like to hear what all you active duty guys think--am I nuts to leave what I have for the hardships of the service, or does the pride, satisfaction, and reality of the military ultimately make it so you couldn't imagine wanting to do anything else with your life?

I know this is rambling, and its up to me to decide (and I do want a Commission--which may make it a moot point) but I'm really confused. I'd like to hear y'alls thoughts. Thank you.

"ooh, you're tense, slasher" [anna nicole smith, naked gun 33 1/3].

tough questions. all valid points. sorry i cant help much. i had the same struggles with lifestyle, etc. upon further review, ive come to the conclusion that it is in fact worth it. but that's not easy and certainly a personal issue.

"upon further review, i need.....further review................upon further introspection, can we really ever know......" (nfl commercial).

if it makes you feel any better i'm leaving a crappy job with lots of uneducated ugly guys and there are times i question my decision. i think its natural to look to an uncertain future with uncertainty. in the end it takes a special breed to serve ones country, and unfortunately, as you said, its a personal decision. no amount of psycobabble from the members of the forum can help you dedcide what you are feeling. good luck sorting things out.
