AMDO Board Jul/Aug 2025

Hello everyone,

I am just interested to see who's shooting for boards later this year. Like many of you, I was prior enlisted - platform H60s. I have had an interesting path leaving the Navy on great terms and finishing college in pursuit of medicine, only to ultimately realize the aviation community is for me. Currently working with a recruiter. Perhaps we could share some insights and further question here. Thanks all.

My first question is what exactly are appraisals...are they intended for those who are still active duty? I have a few LORs coming my way from college and Navy, just wasn't sure if appraisals were necessary in my case.

You deleted your previous post roughly asking the same question.

Being that you’re working with a recruiter, they are going to be your best point of contact for your AMDO OCS application. You can also browse current and previous AMDO board threads that have a ton of insights from applicants.

Similarly, take the time to search around…

Ok, thank you. I'm just deleting questions that are not allowed to be asked I suppose.

It's not that. It's the fact you are asking either commonly-asked questions, the SAME questions just by creating a separate thread, or not using your resources (i.e. your recruiter) to help you out. You're prior service... you gotta learn how to find + use resources instead of asking strangers to find answers for you.

Hello, I am in consistent contact with my recruiter whom I have a great relationship with. I did not ask the same question twice on here. One was manning related (which my recruiter couldn't answer) and one was appraisal related. Appraisals are commonly brought up on these threads, but would have liked a more nuanced answer from those who have received one as an active duty member (which implies they already know what it is. It's not me asking them to "find" answers for me). Just trying to begin a conversation about other's experiences, that's all. I am no stranger to research and resource acquisition, but hey, there's always room for improvement!

You’re technically a civilian, so you don’t need appraisals. They are meant for active duty to allow officers to assess a candidates leadership potential.

Thank you, this helps. I suppose LORs could serve a similar purpose. Good stats by the way, wishing you well this cycle. Can't wait to hear about potential updates on your recruitment.

Thank you, I’m assuming you checked the other post. Letters of recommendation are meant to be a means for officers or other people you’ve worked under to show your potential.

Yes, I read the previous thread regarding the current cycle for AMDO. I guess I could have expanded on appraisals there. Like you, I also majored in a non-engineering degree (philosophy, minor in health sciences). The general consensus is that it shouldn't really matter, since experience and stats seems to be the main drivers of an acceptance. Do you think your major adds any uniqueness or warrants further consideration by the reviewers? Usually when I say philosophy, I hear "what is that exactly? and what can you even do with it?! 😂

AMDO likes business degrees and aviation degrees
