It was always fun to intercept them 175 nm from mother...then tag along with them as they sort of headed toward your stereo.

You could tell when they picked up radio emissions or..go figure, the TACAN, they would quickly turn to roll out on a heading directly at mother.

Then the inevitable fly over...notice we always stayed between them and the boat. Wouldn't be able to really do much, but it was another part of the head game we played.

Looks like someone sneaked a shot w/out you in front.

It's interesting to see these shots and then all the others from "our" side. Our film/paper/cameras sure do appear better. Go figure. Yea, capitalism.

My squadron was VF-114....CVN-65 - post beehive to box island conversion.

We never missed. ;)

Got a crazy mental picture of a room full of Soviet Intel types poring over every one of those pictures with a magnifying glass.

You can't really stop them without hitting them...which at the time would have caused WWIII...so we escorted them and made sure nothing came off their jet inside their lethality range from our stereos and auto-dog machine.
