I was wondering if Marines find out where they are going for Primary before reporting to PCola for API. I'm just trying to plan for the moves, and not sure if it would be wiser to leave the wife here at Quantico for the six weeks till we find out about primary. Any info would be great, and yes I did a search.

Thank you.

Not for certain, no. I think once you have your aviation night at TBS you can ask the MATSG guys that fly up where you're going - most of the guys in my class had a pretty good idea when they graduated TBS - but it can always change. If you get lucky you can even find someone to switch with if you got Whiting and wanted Corpus, or vice versa.

I'm an SNFO so I don't know if it was included in the orders we got at TBS (since I stay at Sherman) but it might have been for the pilots.

Semper Semper Gumby, but it's fairly certain where you are going prior to leaving TBS. Your orders will be to report to MATSG-21; you will get your follow-on orders during Weeks 5-6 of API. StuCon does a pretty good job of getting you your choice of Primary locations, but it is up to needs of service (as usual), and can be heavily influenced by TBS standing.

Ask me about ninjas!
Could have just been when I checked into MATSG in pcola, but they asked me where I wanted to go. When I asked if I'd won the lottery or something, the stucon Marines just kind of shrugged and mentioned something about not wanting to screw anyone out of what they wanted. They've got plenty of spots in both Whiting and Corpus, and the way it was explained to me was that the only primary location based on TBS rank was Vance. To quote one of the guys from my platoon who went to Vance: "There's fvcking NOTHING here except cow sh!t and tumbleweeds." At least in ghetto Corpus we've got the occasional fine latin woman to look at...even if she is Tony Montana's daughter.

yeah, that's right...they told us they'd send the top 10% of pilots from each TBS class to Vance, but it didn't end up that way. They sent the guys with the most flying experience (200-1000 hours), and volunteers, but you never know. The big upside to Vance is finishing primary much sooner, but there's a big downside, too.

If you really want to know now, call the MATSG 21 office and ask. the worst they can tell you is they don't know. Most of the married guys i know are going to live in govenor's gate. it's about midway between NAS P-cola and Whiting. which is a pretty good bet on where you will be going for primary. I came out of Fox Co 05. Regardless of where you are going to primary the best thing to do right now is to find an apartment in p-cola because there are no BOQ rooms available.

A lot of the guys in A Co just found out where they will be going for Primary and from a wife's view point- hubby better not leave me behind in q'co! You could be down in p'cola waiting to pick up for a while (much longer than the 6 weeks for training). I know we're moving the whole family down to P'cola after graduation then pcsing to our primary (yeah we're lucky - OK here we come!).
