Any insight?

Hey guys-
Now i understand that the Navy is currently not in any need of pilots, but i was wondering if any of you have any opinions/insight about when the navy will be in need of pilots again. I know that its pretty much impossible to tell when exactly they'll be a need for pilots again, as the navy takes on SNAs as an as-needed basis (especially those coming through BDCP!). I basically just want to know what some of you think? I mean is it pretty much like a cycle...sorta like the airlines...where there are high times for taking SNAs on and low times, and right now we're just in a low time? Any info/comments/opions etc. would be great! thanks :icon_smil

You can never tell JPILOT. This is the million dollar question that myself, and hundreds of others would give their right testicle to know. A CDR friend of mine that served on the boards told me that the Navy (and MC especially) have a tendancy to "spring" manage. For example, they are short of pilots, so they drastically increase the number of slots, the following FY (or couple FYs later) they have way too many pilots, so they DRASTICALLY decrease the number of slots (like right now). This process repeats itself. I look at it like the stock market. Right now we are the lowest of low. Can only go up from here right? :D

God forbid anyone would ever get on Airwarriors to ask a question. Because none of us have ever done that before.

There are aviation quotas available in the BDCP program now. Working 18-24 months out in BDCP is about the only way to get in these days unless you are lucky and catch a program when it opens up briefly. Talk to a recruiter. Only a recruiter can give you the latest most reliable info. Good Luck

Sent this thread a few hours ago to someone else. Its about the OCS route, but it'll give you an idea of what its like out there now. ('Wink' know's whats up to on this topic too.)

Just got done with an 'OHARP' stint in the NY City area recruiting district. (Awaiting to class up for advanced...6 month wait...pipelines are more than clogged right now. Forgot what an airplane looks like!) As of DEC of 2004, they weren't taking anymore applicants until late FY2006. (A good 15-18 months from now. Thats applications, not 'sending.') To many people not enough slots. (The API pool was about 250 deep a couple of months ago too.) Keep in mind this info is about 2 months old.

I agree, jesus christ. All the guy asked for were people's opinions on the trends. Its really something Im interesting in as well, and i really dont care to search through posts that are two years old.

Its not like he asked what percentage gets jets. :tongue2_1

Look man, think of how tired you may be searching for old threads.... Multiply that by 10 and that is how tired people are of answering the same questions from people that are too lazy to type in a search and get the same answers.

There is a reason why old posts are not removed from the site, it is becuase there is still useful info in them that can lead to questions getting answered sooner, without starting yet another thread on a topic that has been answered on numerous occasions. At which point if there is still a question, res that thread or start a new one. Most people are quite happy to answer a question, however when the answer is already readily available.... and yes there is info on this site about this topic, I know, I have answered this question on numerous occasions.

The information requested is perisable. It does no good to look to an answer given, even by someone in the know, 6 months ago when it changes so frequently. Just two days ago CNRC could have come down from on high and declared Supply Corps unexpectedly closed and pilot wide open for 40 quotas. What good would an answer be from archives then? I have an idea. If some of you guys insist on having members search the archives for an answer before posting any guestion then maybe you should take on the job of reviewing all the old posts for the current accuracy of the answers given. Which task do you want? 1-review thousands of posts in dozens of subjects you may not be expert in for the accurancy of their content, 2-take 45 seconds to write a three line answer to the newbe, 3-ignore the newbe, grab another beer and search for zaabs latest avatar.

Wink, while I agree that the info is always changing... ther is 1 constant... NO one will ever be able to answer the time old question of "how many pilot slots are there now and how many will there be when I am ready to apply." And in that respect, the old info is usually right on, since most of the posts say, there is no way to give you an answer. That is one of the easiest questions to find an answer to on this site, as it is asked and answered on about a monthly basis.

However, I do agree, that it is probably easier to just skip over the thread.

I'll give you that. There is some consistancy in no consistancy at all.

BTW, #3 was skip the thread AND grab a beer and search for zaabs new avatar. You forgot the fun part.

how did I get pulled into this? I just stay out of these threads...I don't know anything about it, other than I got in during one of those "we need pilots and you have a pulse" timeframes (suprise suprise). too bad there's no "pilot need barometer" function, with a "pilot need forecast"...someday...

wink, if I could, I'd change my avatar right now just for you. pc at work won't let me.

You're right #3 is the best of the options! Zab, I think you should come up with a "pilot barometer" to post on the front page... you know something like...
-Not a chance in hell
-Maybe, but only if you want to be a jet pilot
-Sure, but you are going to have to be a helo pilot, and the airlines won't hire you

you get the point.

While I understand that there is NO way to tell how many slots there are, I thought the man was asking what people thought of the pipeline trends. Its really a question of opinion. Maby I misunderstood his question.

I wonder myself if we will see a huge demand in aviators in the next year or two because the Navy is taking no applicants right now. It seems like its been that way in the past, but the Navy is constantly changing things so it sometimes it seems hard to really form an opinion.

You guys are in the fleet. Your opinions definately count for a lot more then mine does anyway.

But anyway, im done. Im gonna go ask squeeze what my chances of getting jets are!
