Anybody Have Info on Transitioning From Air Traffic Control To Pilot? Maradmins?

Hello, I am currently a 7220 Air Traffic Control Officer. Flight Surgeon just signed me off as PQ'd today after a prior flight physical misread at another base. Please advise if anybody has any information on transferring to pilot via Maradmins/Pilot Selection Board/HQMC, etc. Semper Fidelis!

Thanks for the heads up! I was unaware how this forum works so I put up basically three posts. Sorry about that. Anyway's I have some direction so good to go.

usmarinemike was a 7242 that was hazed so viciously by one of my guys I took to Afghanistan in 2008, that he decided to go the 80s action movie route and 'seek revenge'. He's not actually in flight training, so much as he's filming scenes for a montage...

Crowbar's direction is the way to go. I know of a couple of ATC guys that got picked up by the Field Accession Board in the last 7 years. One's a shitter pilot somewhere (lost track of him), and the other two were passing acquaintances here at Cherry Point.

There are, however, many more people--myself included--who wind up going the opposite direction, and end up in the 72XX community. Specifically, the DASC. If you get your chance, just make sure you use it wisely.

Thanks Gaijin6423!

Appreciate the feedback. I looked into the FY2010 Accession Board and apparently they selected already. I am fairly new to the ATC community and really enjoy it. It was my number one choice out of TBS and even received my number one choice of duty station. So, you and everyone else may be wondering "Why are you trying to transfer?" The answer is easy, I've wanted to be a Naval Aviator since I was 6 years old. I attended ERAU in Daytona Beach and even acquired half of my Master's degree there. Flying is in my blood. Unfortunately, a simple flight physical mixup NPQ'd me for pilot. I took it upon myself, personal leave and flying up to National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md only to find out that my eyes were 20/20. The doctors where shocked that I was even there. Here I am. It's good though, because according to the Maradmin it looks as though I will have to have a minimum of 1 year on station. This means that I will have the opportunity to finish my quals, possibly attend WTI/MMT course and go on deployment. I would like to prove myself in this community before transferring, if at all possible.

How is the DASC? Been hearing a lot about it over in Afghanistan.

What can I say. I do my own stunts. And if anybody said they hazed me, then it's not true. Everybody knows that 42's, despite being really great at their jobs, are just too lazy to do such things. And if they did haze me it was because they were a dirtbag with a chip on their shoulder...Not that hazing is tolerated in the Marine Corps.

Best of luck to you Glad. What company were in at TBS?

The DASC is... Well, it's the DASC, I guess. As for the DASC in Afghanistan, I take none of the credit, and all of the blame. The credit goes to my guys/gals who busted their asses 24/7, and the blame goes to their jackass boss f-ing it up.

And ^that guy^ is right. No 7242 would dare actually haze anyone else, because they're too busy waiting in line at McDonald's or shotgunning beers. And--occasionally--working.
