I was in P'Cola in Nov 85. Is this the pissed off Marine that drove over the harleys outside in his jeep and drove to the main get getting chased on his flattened tires/rims (on one tire in any case).
Affirmative -that's the incident I was referring to. You have a great memory!
This fellow and I visited Kack's a week or two prior, without encountering any trouble or hostility. The place was almost empty, and no one seemed to pay us any mind.
Well, Thanksgiving weekend, I left town, and my drinking buddy, with nothing better to do, went back there. This time, the place had a large crowd of bikers in it.
He walked in, I'm sure, wearing his usual polo shirt, clean-shaven, regulation Marine haircut, etc., and immediately received some sort of verbal nastiness/insult from one of the bikers.
His reponse was "F__ you!", and he turned his back ( mistake ) to walk out of the joint..about that time, someone broke a beer bottle over his head from behind.
He turned around again, decided that the odds were not in his favor, walked out, climbed into his Jeep CJ-7, and plowed into the row of Harleys parked out front. He then reversed over the bikes again for good measure. His tires punctured, he made it across the bridge, rims sparking,
with angry bikers in pursuit. He was detained at the gate, while the bikers gathered on the bridge screaming death threats.
This 2nd Lt. became a sort of an instant legend on base, but unfortunately, the CO of MATSG did not have any empathy at all for him. The Colonel, said it was all his fault for being there, and gave him lot of ultimatum: Resign or get court-martialed. Very sad... I felt very bad for my friend, he was only a week or two away from starting AI (API), after waiting for months being pooled.
