Got my orders a bit ago to report as SNA to API NLT 05 AUG. Was wondering if the issues with raising the attrition rate, etc., look like they're going to be cleared up by then.

I remember the directive that was released awhile back said they were looking at May 05 to have the issues resolved, God knows if that's ever reliable or not. I'll obviously be putting my all and working my ass off in API regardless, but I was just curious as to whether anyone knew anything about how it was progressing down there. Thanks for the info.

The class starting this week (05-30) will be back to the old standards. 80 to pass. Most all of FY04 guys have been classed up and I believe my class is last of those. FY05 guys really don't have to worry about the attrition through the 42.5 NSS. You should be good to go. Well, back to studying for Aero and Weather. Let's see if I can dodge the Attrition bullet as Zippy said....

Hey Zippy, I am good to go on most of Aero 1. However, I had to make notecards for Ch.4 & 5...I hate theoretical stuff. I'm not too gifted when it comes to that. Weather seems to be okay thus far but we've only been through 3 chapters so far.
Arbor, just like Zippy said, be ready to work hard. Studying ahead is always a good idea, now I wish I'd done it.

What would you have studied ahead of time.

Well, if you have the pubs, I would definitely look at the first 6 chapters of Aero and probably the first 2 or three from weather. However, it's not as bad as I'm making it sound. Most people don't study ahead but do just fine.

It is a shame that the Navy had to raise the NSS for FY04 SNAs (A relief for the FY05 guys though). Unfortunate because not everyone is good at taking exams, and many were borderline. Too bad Primary couldn't have been used to reach the attrition numbers. It sounds like you are an FY04 Stud; good luck with API. Rumor has it that about a 94 is the cut now, any word on that?

Eh, it was somewhere in between a 92 and 93 last week. Who knows, it could be a 94 this week though- but I've been hearing it was a 94 since i got down here two months ago so who knows.

On day 0 brief, we were told that it's between 93 and 94. I think we had around 30 DOR's right of back without even starting API. API actually got over 40 people thus far but they haven't hit their mark yet. Right now, even a switch to NFO is competetive and not every SNA is able to make the switch. Our class has around Sixteen 04 SNAs including myself. Yeah it sucks and it's alot of pressure to do well but hoping that all of us pull through.

My class started with 19 SNAs and ended with 15 (last week). 4 out of 20 is about a 20% loss - not too great. The cutoff wound up being around a 93-94, but I couldn't say for sure.

As of last week there were only 13 NFO slots left for FY04 pilots to transition to. Unfortunately, there are up to about 25-28 (22 a week ago + 3-4 for the class today) people who want them right now.

Hang in there, Venom...

Besides the initial DOR's, are most of the attrites during the first four weeks (the classroom)?

Yup, first 4 weeks might get you especially if you're an 04 guy. Anyway, so I guess the number is getting close to 80. Oh man, I hope they get all the people they need before they get to 0529. :p

The end of week four is the end of academics and the end of 'graded' stuff. Everything in weeks 5 and 6 is pass/fail and all the tests are easy.

Basically ... in order for you to attrite in weeks 5 or 6, you would have to severely hurt yourself and become physically unqualified for the navy, develop an insane and unreasonable fear of water, or DOR.

Weeks 5 and 6 are fun, though...so make it through weeks 1-4 for that at least ;)

Ya, if you are one of the unlucky SNAs who get cut, and don't think you want to go NFO stick around for weeks 5 and 6 before you make your final decision- you may change your mind, and at least you'll have some fun.
