What are the best ways to stay on top of the study material during API? Notecards, studying with friends, etc? Does anybody find that they just use a method that was successful to them during college, or do you have to change your approach?

Been selected for SNA, I go after commissioning in May. I'm really excited!

I'll tell ya what worked for me. I had a few weeks before I started API so I got ahold of the PUBS and read them twice. Then before each class, I would read the respective chapter, then review it once I got home. Before the test I would review all the ELO's and I was money for the test(s). As for the Nav part, I used up most of a weekend to do all the practice problems.

I know this probably seems extreme to those that have already gone through it, but I didn't have any flying experience. That first 4 weeks was a long 4 weeks.

study in groups if you can... the only test i got a hundred on was Aero 1 and that was 'cuz I studied in a group a couple days before the test. My personal method was to do the study questions when I got back that night for the chapters we reviewed in class. I also skimmed the chapters we could cover the next day. I always made sure i read through the entire book (with a highlighter) at least 3 times during the course. BTW... gouge is always a good thing.. don't rely on it.. but use it to test your knowledge. A LOT of the questions are very similar to the gouge.

About to start Tac phase in the Herc.
Write the ELO's by hand, then go through the chapter and find the answer to each one and write it out as well. This takes a lot of time and paper, but it forces you to read and understand each chapter, and the tests are taken straight from the ELO's anyway. For Nav, do NOT slack off on doing the homework. I had a few guys in my class say, "I took navigation at the academy, screw the homework." Both guys failed the test.

Future Herc driver hit the nail on the head. The enabling objectives are the only place that test questions come from. If you study nothing else, study those.
For Nav just do as many homework problems as you need to, in order to pass the practice test, quickly and with a 90 or above and you will be fine on the real test

Thats no bull-**** about the nav portion. The practice problems and practice test take forever, but do them. ALL of them.
