Applicant's Remarks

Is this the type of stuff you put in your applicant's remarks?

9. I have one speeding ticket from Aug 06. This ticket was for traveling 84 mph in a 70 mph zone. Ticket paid, lesson learned. To date there have been zero additional infractions.

9b. See waiver/statement. This one-time event involved 1 pill of Adderall, a medication used to treat ADHD, no police authorities were involved. I have not used any prescription/illegal drugs outside of this single instance.

Proven Record
2005 - Eagle Scout Award
2011 - Airman Leadership School: Leadership Award Winner
2005 - Graduated High School with Honors
2011 - Coined by Secretary of the Army
2009 - Squadron Airman of the Quarter (Q3)
2013 - AF Commendation Medal
2009 - Group Airman of the Quarter (Q3)
2014 - Squadron NCO of the Quarter (Q2)

If you're Referring to your Application Processing and Summary Record (APSR) I believe you would include the 9b and all the leadership positions and awards, but not #9's speeding tickets. #9 is only including drugs, alcohol, domestic violence, and bankruptcy.

I'm almost certain the tickets have a place to be referenced on the Security Clearance Packet and the Adderall use should be referenced again in the security Clearance Packet under Section 23. I would of course ask your recruiter what they have to say about the ticket because depending on the fine amount or number of tickets (>$300?) you may need a waiver. I'm only speaking from my experience of course, but I have recently finished the mountains of paperwork.

What did your OR say? Did you even ask him/her? See what I just did there...
I do see what you did there, that was some pretty nice thinking! I do admit that I did not ask my recruiter, I was merely getting a feel for what other applicants did.

I do find my recruiter to be a valuable asset though the journey, I assure you I will not forget about him.

Thanks for the push to ask my OR, I often feel like a burden, although I just started my application process. I would prefer not to annoy as they have quite the large block that they can fill out regarding me.

The fact of the matter is just like your experiences in the Air Force, you have a chain-of-command. Both going up and going down. When it comes to submitting an application, you too have a chain-of-command with your OR as your single POC getting you into the Navy. In return, it is up to your OR to be providing guidance to set you up for success. That's why I'm not very big on helping applicants here that their ORs can otherwise help them.

If you're having issues with your OR (communication, etc.) you need to address them directly with him/her. Just like your enlisted experience and hopefully soon-to-be officer experience, you need to have a good communication chain. If you're having issues, address them! An ORs job is to put you in the Navy, nothing else.

I really wish this thread would have continued, my question was so close to being answered. I have searched three pages of threads that contain the phrase "applicants remarks" and this is the closest I have gotten to an answer. I actually asked my OR about putting awards in the "Applicant's Remarks" section and he wasn't sure. I was adding additional leadership positions and extracurricular activities that overflowed from section 14, as he instructed me in the same format (Activity - Period - # of years - office held), but I'm still not sure if the awards should be put in here or throughout the motivational statement or possibly used in both? Should the headers of Proven Record or Extra Curricular Activities /Clubs /Sports /Organizations even be there? Below is the type of formatting that I'm wanting to use for section 15, let me know if you guys think this will work or what you recommend. Thanks!

Extra Curricular Activities/Clubs/Sports/Organizations
DMAFB Resiliency Training Leader - PC - 1 Year - Training Leader
Boy Scouts Of America - PC - 1 Year - Den Leader
Physical Training Leader- PC 1 Year - Physical Trainer
Al Dhafra AB First Four Council - PC - 1 Year President
Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society - College - 3 Year - Committee Member
Preston High School Soccer HS - 2 Year - Captain

Proven Record (Used as an example from AF Chris taken from earlier)
2005 - Eagle Scout Award
2011 - Airman Leadership School: Leadership Award Winner
2005 - Graduated High School with Honors
2011 - Coined by Secretary of the Army
2009 - Squadron Airman of the Quarter (Q3)
2013 - AF Commendation Medal

I am not and never have been an OR (or any manner of crimp for that that matter) but my take would be to skip all the high school stuff with the exception of Eagle Scout. Go outwards from there to include academic awards, military decorations, letters of recommendation (like the Sec Army coin), and service leadership positions. You have a good track record as a young adult and the format you provide seems pretty clear to me.

Just list the extracurricular activities and keep them to 5-6 max on the remarks section. Remove the awards stuff.

Assuming you're applying for Pilot/NFO ASTB and GPA are about 90% of selection criteria. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Even better advice from someone who actually knows the job.

Since when us receiving a coin considered an award? Oh yeah, Air Force...I suppose there is an appropriate medal/ribbon to go with that....

Thanks for all of your quick input, I'm definitely overthinking the whole thing. The bullets from the "proven record" section were just copied as an example from the original poster, and not actually mine. It is interesting that we both just so happen to be Air Force.
