That's a good question to wonder about. How many people get interested the flying business (military or otherwise) because of an interest in space, be it sci-fi, being an astronaut, or otherwise?

I mean, I grew up reading about the Wright Brothers and wanting to be an astronaut, but I think it was Star Wars that introduced me to the idea of combat aviation. A friend told me that scenes in the movie were based on WWII dogfight footage, and from then on I was hooked on the real thing.

Don't forget about big dirty spaceships in Star Wars promoting an interest in P-3s. Chewbacca, first science fiction flight engineer.
