I'm a freshman college student and Ive started the PLC -14 program following in the footsteps of my brother who is A Marine HUEY pilot currently deployed in Thailand. Ive been Studying for the ASTB and Ive recently took it a second time and it seems like i failed it in my mind. It felt as if all Ive been studying from the supplements i was given and the Arco book i was given was totally different the spatials I had down pact in the book felt unknown to me this time around. I studied nothing but math mechanics and spatial and it seems I hadn't had a clue , could someone give me pointers because this is my future career at hand.

The ASTB is largely an aptitude test...some of the facets can be practiced, but not necessarily "learned". (Aviation and nautical knowledge are example of things that can be studied, and if you're rusty at math and mechanics, etc., it's certainly a good idea to practice.) Can you give us an idea of your scores, if you're comfortable sharing, or do you only know your first set of scores so far? You might be interested the Barron's study guide for the ASTB. As I recall, its spatial sections were closer to the actual test.

Barron's seems to do a better job on the spatial comprehension.. The graphics are different but the angles are there. Oh yea, watch out for rod powers and his stupid errors all over the book.. You'll spend more time trying to figure out why a right answer is wrong only to find out it is right.. than you will studying.

Also, there is a mock test with a question from each category on some Navy website.. Do a google search and it should come up that wait you will see and recall exactly how the spatial graphic looks.. and how shitty it is.

What are your scores.. Also.. what other study materials have you used.. If you pm I will send you everything I used.. I mean granted I didn't get stellar scores I aboyt met the average for Naval SNA/NFO.. 7 7 6 58

I'm curious about what you used as well, Eaglei. I'd love to see what sources you used. Are you pro-rec'd yet?

I used something that was not Barrons or ARCO the second time. I believe it was just a general officer candidate test book... Regardless, I had the same result as the OP.

Good news, OP! The Barrons book is WAY better than the old. I only scored 5,5,4 52(?), but I think I'm gonna get into my groove for the finale.
