ASTB in less than 2 Weeks

Hi my name is Steve Nemeth. I am a 2006 Allegheny College graduate and spent the last year coaching football at Westminster College and starting my Masters in Legal Studies / Homeland Security. I am preparing for the ASTB which I am taking on the 18th of June.

I was curious about how difficult some sections were and how to study and prepare for them. I am not concerned about the Verbal section, and not really the Math (My SAT math was a 600, I didn't really prepare for it, I dont know if that score has any connection with the ASTB.) I took Physics in college as well as Math, and I majored in History, so I feel that the OAR portion is not my major concern. The spacial apperception portion of the study guides does not seem very difficult. I was curious to know how these questions on the actual test are different. Also I was curious to know how difficult the Nautical and Aviation questions are. I know that there is a lot of information provided through this site, but I was just curious about any other study tools or advice.

I guess I am looking for any advice or pointers on which sectio9ns to concentrate on or really any knowledge about the ASTB at all. Thanks for any help.

Respectfully,

Steve Nemeth

The search function on this site is great, and you pretty much can't go wrong by looking through the threads at the top of the pile in the ASTB forum. Once you have some specific questions, then post those or PM someone about them.

Everybody here is super willing to give advice, but read up on it because all of your concerns have been answered in other threads. I am confident that coming to this website will be of help to you.

I would not worry too much about the nautical section. But to answer your question, know who John Paul Jones is and Port and Starboard. Know that that an F-14 is a Tomcat, etc. I dont think that it is weighed too heavy in the scoring. I would be most concerned with the math, reading, and mechanical. From what it reads you seem to have that in check. Just so you know, the math and verbal are 2 seperate sections on the actual ASTB. The Cliffs and Arco book place them together. Good luck!
