ASTB Mech Comp Physics Level

OK, so out of the all the study aids I have, the MC section of the test is usually the gears/levers/gases/etc. kind of stuff. I have been studying and doing every sample test however, including the AFOQT and the Army one as well.

However, on one or two of my ASTB sammple tests, the questions are more like the AFOQT where you have all the more advanced physics, such as the hand with the force on it putting force on the lumbar region of the back, with some stupid formula like M=Pirw(f*3)o*w(g*w)2. Slight exaggeration, but you get my drift.

Now, my question is is the ASTB more the first paragraph stuff or the second, cuz if it is the second I need more time to study... (Test is on Tuesday morning).

Thanks.

I don't know what BDCP is...

On a second thought, I'm going to wager that it is not as complicated as I fear it will be, as I know you can not use a calculator on the test, and I doubt most people can figure out cos 17 * sin 57 / 1777 in their head.

The Mechanical portion of the ASTB includes very elementary physics. It contained a lot of questions that tested your understanding of the concepts rather than calculations. The calculations that were on the test were mainly quick and easy, all mental math. Study the Marine Mehanical Gouge (be sure to understand the concepts, especially mechanical advantage) and do the practice questions from here: http://www.airwarriors.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=8&d=1077514867
As a side note, the practice questions are very much like the test.
As for the AFOQT and Army practice tests I suggest staying away from them because they are very different tests.

Good Luck!

I just took the ASTB yesterday and for some reason this time it was brutal. The most important thing to remember is infer on the reading portion so conclude something don't repeat what the paragraph states. Know how to manipulate equations and solve for variables in both the math and mechanical portions. Here is something really odd... For whatever reason they repeat some of the same questions in different portions of the exam so if you can remember that right answer you can whip through those pretty quick. Spatial views is tough because there is so little time and the versions available to study stink. They are nothing like the real exam. The equations for the mechanics portion are not important. Knowing how things work is more important. Balls rolling down a ramp at different heights, which one has the greater velocity when it reaches the bottom kind of thing. DO KNOW HOW FORCE WORKS BECAUSE THEY LIKE TO ASK THE TOTAL FORCE OF A B C kind of thing.
