Astb Question.....

Everyone,

I was just wondering, for those of you who have taken the test, did the computer that you took the test on pose any problems?? I took the test for the first time (and only time thus far) in Seattle. When I started the test, the computer froze up and the facilitator had to come in and reboot the system. Once I got going again, the computer was taking forever to load the next page after I answered a question, yet the timer kept running! Is that standard? Are all of the computers used for these tests of such low quality all over the country at the various testing facilities? Also, does every testing facility give the option to take the test with paper and pencil instead of on a computer?

Yes I had the same computer issues. My computer required rebooting in the middle of the test and it burned 3-5 seconds each time it went to the next question.

I just took the test this past Tuesday via computer. I never had any reboot related issues, but I did notice it could take a few seconds to advance to the next page. That being said, I never had issues on time. In fact, you probably save some time not having to fill in circles...:icon_tong

Just curious, what version did you get? I took version 5 and didn't like it all that well.

I am actually prior enlisted and had an NMCI account when I was in. I know how jacked up it can get. I didn't know the testing computers were NMCI as well.

Yes, if you retest or next time you are in the recruiter's office look around. Everything has their famous name/asset tag on it!

Ask to take the paper version! It will take longer to get results, but it is worth it time wise....

Were you really that crunched for time? I took it on computer and even with all the delays I finished most sections well ahead of time. How much time would it possibly give you? 3-5 minutes over the course of the test? I wanted to take the computerized version so I knew my scores right then and there, and if I needed to start getting ready to take it over again. Take it for what its worth, but I don't think it matters much. And I took version 5 also.

APEX system takes note what time you finished the question, and when it displays the next question, it pushes the clock back to that time. It does this also in case you need to reboot (which I needed). You don't lose any time, and my processor told me that was the biggest non-issue complaint because it doesn't get any more fair than that. Plus you get a few seconds to let your brain rest.

EDIT: After doing some googling, looks like APEX stands for Automated Pilot Examination. Neat.

Has some good info about Retest statistics

What did you think? How did you do?

I didn't budget my time as well on the math section, and I ran out of time with a bunch of questions left over... I think I was trying to hard to get everyone right and not focusing on completing them all. The power meter reading was a bit of a surprise also. The rest of it was pretty close to what I expected. I think I did okay with a 55 6/7/6, but we'll see in a few weeks. Which parts surprised you?

Wow, we were pretty close. 6/6/6/ 54 here.

Ya, the math kinda got me due to time too. I tried to skip through it to find all the easy ones and then go back and do the hard ones. The electronic version is pretty nice in that regard, because you can mark the ones you are iffy on and easily go back. Although I don't think I did that bad here.

The part I feel I did the worst on was the aviation/nautical. Some of the questions can just be so random. And you either know them or you don't, no logical deduction. Some in the mechanical are like that too, (i.e. "What machine would you need to do xxxx"). I memorized all the gouge too, just random crap got me.

The spatial and reading weren't that bad though.

Anyway, I think I'm going to go ahead and apply with these scores. I'm planning on taking it again though.

Why?? Those scores are fine. Just apply. You only get three chances and the next time you take the exam,.... those scores are the ones that stick. You cant go back and use these scores. Just apply.
