I just got my ASTB back and scored 6/7/6 54 OAR, on my first attempt my recruiter said these were competitive and could get me a pilot seat going in through the OCC, should i retake? my gpa is 2.56 management major and i'm seeing a lot higher numbers on here, any advice?

Those ASTB scores are pretty decent, about the same as mine (7/8/5 54 OAR). My GPA is low as well, but after having easy (relatively) classes this semester and this summer I expect to be well over 3.0. My recruiter told me that my ASTB needs to be a little higher to be competitive for SNA.

I see you're still in college, any chance you could take some extra easy classes to help raise your GPA up?

All the ASTB does is predict how well you should do in API. That is all, so it is more of a whole package deal. If your GPA is low it should be countered with a ASTB and vice versa. So if you have good recs, other attributes, etc it could go a long way.

marines, i'm going through plc combined program this summer, i'm supposed to report june 3rd if i get in. my oso seems to think i've got a good shot, or at least he's talking like it, but with a 2.56 gpa (business), 6/7/7 54 and a 248, i'm starting to feel a little nervous.

I am in the same situation you are. My gpa is a 2.75 at Texas A&M, but a 3.14 overall with some grades from a community college. I have looked around on the site to see if anyone has gotten in with a gpa like mine, and the answer is definitely. They did have very strong lor's, extracurriculars, etc... So with your ASTB being in the competitive range, I would say that you have a chance as long as the rest of your package is strong.

your community college GPA won't factor into your service selection package FYI.....so it will just be your Texas A&M grades that go in

Have you taken your PFT yet? Since you are going the Marine Corps route, your PFT is a huge factor. Getting as close to maxing out as possible will also help to offset things such as gpa. But then again I don't know what order all of it happens so you may have already done it.

I was told differently by my recruiter. I was worried that my gpa from A&M would be lower than a 2.7 for bdcp but he said that if that was the case, that my community college gpa would be considered and would bring my gpa over a 2.7 so I would be eligible for bdcp.

Sorry, that may be the case for BDCP pro-recs (not really familiar w/ your process). I was just speaking for NROTC types

I am taking the computerized version of the ASTB later this month and I was wondering if all versions of the test can be on the computer, or are only a few versions available via computer?

All versions are on the computer.

While posting to this thread, keep in mind you may be comparing apples and oranges. The original poster is applying for Marines/PLC air. Offering your experience with a Navy application is not very germane. Likewise, a NROTC guy offering his advise based on his experiences. Lets offer the guy realistic help/opinions, not just jack up our post count.

I just took the ASTB and applying for pilot contract (USMC)... my scores were 6/7/7 and the recruiter mentioned, this test is basically pass or fail. What they want to see is the whole package as a person. Your gpa and extracurricular involvement. My gpa was a 2.9 from U. of Louisville in business, but I also had some solid outside activities. So the board looks at the whole thing. So someone who gets straight 9's or has a 4.0gpa doesn't necessary get in because all he ever did was sit in his room and study. They want a all around Marine who is capable of thinking and leading. Just my opinion from my what my OSO explained.
