I took the ASTAB last week and scored the following: AQR(5), PFAR(6), FOFAR(4), OAR(52). I was wondering if anyone knew if these scores were high enough to qualify me for the pilot option. I’m asking this question because I've been told several things. First I was told I had to score five's across the board in order to qualify, then I was told they only look at 3 of the scores for service selection. For example, if you were applying for the pilot option they only look at your AQR, PFAR, and OAR scores and if you’re applying for Naval Flight Officer they look at your AQR, FOFAR, and OAR scores. I would really appreciate any assistance in these matters. Thanx

After looking at your profile???, I can't help you. Navy or Marines? NROTC or Navy or Marine Corps OCS? Fill out your profile, then we might be able to tell you more.

Hmmm. Guess we'll be on pins and needles and just have to keep re-checking the OP for edits. ;)

To answer the OP: what did your OR say? 4 is a pretty weak score: it seems boarderline unacceptable for an aviation (pilot or NFO) selection to OCS. Maybe your OR can tell you if the rest of your package could make up for it, or if they will even consider your package once they see a 4 (yes, even if it is the NFO part of the score).

Trying to figure out some stuff

Ok, now we are cooking with gas. Thanks for adding to your profile. NOW I CAN Help!!

As a STA-21 guy, you just need to meet the Navy minimums of 3/4/4 (AQR/PFAR/FOFAR). The OAR is not used for NROTC/STA-21 guys and gals. You only need two scores: For SNA you would use AQR and PFAR and for SNFO you would use AQR and FOFAR.

For PILOT (SNA) your scores are fine (5/6). For SNFO, your scores are acceptable (5/4). Are you physically qualified for SNA? Are you looking at SNA or SNFO? Was this the first time taking the test and did you study for it?

That was my first time taking it, and I studied for about a week.

I have one more question for you, I’m thinking about taking it again, but what if I don't meet the minimum requirements for one of the two options, lets say I meet the minimum requirements of a 3 for AQR and a 4 for PFAR, but I don’t meet the requirements of a 4 for FOFAR can I still apply for the pilot option (SNA).

I guess I might have to start paying you for your knowledge. Thanx, I really appreciate your help

1. Most people get better scores the second or even third time around. My advice would be to study some more, then re-take the test. There's lots of good ASTB gouge on www.marinegouge.com.

2. You do not need a qualifying score in both categories to apply for one. For example, lets say you have a score of 5/6/3 (AQR/PFAR/FOFAR), you can apply for pilot, but are not qualified to apply for NFO.

Have you spoken to your Aviation advisor about your scores? He/she can also tell you, in general, what other OC's & MIDN scored to get selected.

Let me know what else I can do to help.
