ASTB Test Results

Well I took the electronic ASTB test this afternoon and barely missed the Marine Corps requirements. I scored a 4/5/5 54 and the Marines require a 4/6/6 ... Needless to say, I'm quite bummed that I missed it by 1 in two sections. I only studied for about 3 hours for the test so I figure I did pretty well for such a low amount of preparation. Before I get accused of being a procrastinator, my recruiter called me last night and told me I needed to come in for the test so I had little to no time to prepare. I dashed out and bought the Arco book and crammed what I could into my mind. Its fortunate that I love this type of stuff so the material I went over stuck firmly in my mind.
So I guess I'm asking for anyone help with areas of study. Isn't there a Marine Gouge out there that I can look at? I also need a lot of work on Aviation and Nautical Knowledge, but I don't know where to look other than the Arco book. Thanks for helpin' out everyone!

I know what everyone else on this forum is thinking of saying as a response to this question... I'm sure everyone else knows what I'm thinking of saying as a response to this question as well. I will go ahead and take one for the team and spare you guys your time.

better luck next time, apparently the Marines are only grading your scores on pass/fail and not your actual scores so if you only missed by one then getting over that hump shouldn't be too difficult with just 4 hours of studying..instead of 3. Seriously though, take a few days tand really study the ARCO book its really all you need, and if it's seriously graded on a pass/fail basis then you shouldn't have any problem. You've also already had exposure to the test, so you now know the format, and the type of questions, so when you study for your 2nd go around you'll be more in the know of what to look for...

What does that mean "graded on a pass/fail" How do they determine a candidates contract ie SNA NFO?

Sorry for the post jack

well you said it yourself you missed the Marine Corps requirements by one which means you failed, achieve the minimum requirements and you PASS. The ASTB is taken if you want to go air, pilot or nfo, from there once you pass you can submit a packet for pilot and you can submit one for nfo you can also submit one for ground, to go before the board for selection. Mind you your packet will consist of a whole lot more then just your astb, for air you'll also need to conduct an exhaustive flight physical, to go along with everything else.

As far as why do they select some ppl for pilot and others for NFO, its just the timing, the needs of the military, and probably other factors in your package as far as i know none of us could pinpoint why exactly they choose one person for pilot and the next for NFO...regardless of pilot or nfo you should be proud to get an air contract.

I appreciate the help, and as for shotcalla, I apologize about being new to all this. I wasn't aware of the search function, nor was I aware it was such an offense to not know things before posting my very first post. -.- Although your pointing out of the search function has been EXTREMELY beneficial for me. Thanks for the tip.
