Taking the infamous ASTB tomorrow! I have been studying the Cliffs book and don't feel very much more prepared than i had before i bought the book. Any other suggestions for taking the test? ive taken a peek at the columbia page with all the study guides. I got less than 24 hours left! any help would be appreciated.

I don't know about everyone else, but I did not find the Cliffs that helpful. I would study the columbia info and make sure you understand why you missed what you missed. Also, take look at the ARCO book (link on columbia) and ASTB gouge and mechanical handout. I have been studying for the re-take and have found these to be alot more relevant to the actual test. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!! Are you taking the computer or written version?

Wow, that cliffs study book had me scared. But when it came time to take the test it wasnt a sophisticated as cliffs would want you to believe. I think i did reasonably well but we will see huh?

No I guess they send it to MEPS or that NOMI place or wherever it is that grades the tests. You only get instant results when you take the internet version of the ASTB to my understanding.

Guess it may just depend on the location, when I took the written one a few years back they graded it for us on the spot. Oh well, how quick they grade it doesn't matter anyway, good luck! :D

I took the ASTB today and was told by the test proctor that he'd get my score in 1.5 to 2 weeks; however my recruiter told me "no, 1 week."

I found all the study guides over prepared you for the test. I also feel like the only thing you could gleam from those books is a refresher in math(remember it is math you should be able to do in your head nothing really complex) and to learn some of the aeronautical and ship "stuff" if you have no previous experience with it.

oh yeah
good luck

I have to a retake, this is number two for me. The last one i scored a 5/6/5 i belive. Good for pilot but not NFO. Besides, crappy score anyway. Which study guide on here covers mechanical comp the most? I suck at that stuff and need to brush up on it again, the test is nov.14.

badger, highlight my last post ;)

edit: For people taking it.... not to be the bearer of bad news or anything, but I thought the test was signficantly harder than the practice ones in the marine gouge and ARCO book. Especially the spacial apperception. The real one was more complex...
