ASTB, "unanswered questions"

ODSCandidate

OCSCandidate
I've really searched the entire forum and haven't found an answer to this question. The officer recruiter didn't know the answer. How are unanswered questions handled on the ASTB? Are they considered wrong if you don't get to finish the exam? Or do they calculate answered against unanswered? Just curious. Getting ready to take it. Thanks for your help here. There is a ton of great information from you guys.

Im pretty sure that wrong answers do not count against you like on thte SAT and you should guess or try and fill in all questions. When I looked at the timer and saw I had like 15 seconds left I went back and filled in those I had left blank and it worked for me.

I'm pretty sure it says in the Peterson's book, I used that one and it went well for me, but I don't have it anymore. I would imagine the other review books list it....

The unanswered questions aren't considered wrong, necessarily. The test is graded by how many answers you get right, so it is in your best interest to at least attempt to answer them all even if your only guessing. When you guess you have a 25% shot, when you don't attempt, your chances are considerably lower.

+1. Leave no answer blank. Furthermore, don't freak yourself out by going back over questions too much. When I took it, I marked the ones I had really no idea about (luckily only a couple) and went back to those at the end. They have done study after study about people who change their answers after taking their first educated guess and find that you are much more likely to get it wrong if you change your answer.

Best of luck to you.

I go by the clock face: what quadrant the second hand is in dictates my answer on a guess. Far more scientific than just guessing like some schmoe.

Just getting back to this. So are you all saying "unanswered" questions (not wrong answers), but "unanswered" questions do not count against you?

I believe neither an unanswered nor an incorrectly answered question "counts against" you - both are treated equally as a question you did not get right. Therefor, as was mentioned above, you should answer every question even if you have to guess.
