Hey guys, I'm new to this site and Just starting my application for BDCP. I took "The Exam" about a month ago and scored a 50 on it, which I was told is the minimum I should shoot for. I was going to do the PT not too long after, but I broke my kne and am still rehabing it. I wanted to retake the etst so I could score higher, I see guys on this site with 60+, and I realize that 50 just wont cut it (especially with a 2.52 gpa after 24 credit hours). I was wondering if anyone knows of any good study guides or anything like that. If you do, can you PLEASE let me know. I dont know when I will be able to do the PT cause the knee is still pretty shot. But if I could get everything else done, then I could concentrate on rehab more. Now I have all aspects going through my head, and rehab almost always seems to take a back seat. Thank you for all of your help. You all seem pretty helpful with each other.

You may or may not be eligible yet for BDCP based on your major. Technical Majors (engineering and science fields) can be accepted their sophomore years, while it's junior year for everybody else. Don't let studying for the ASTB interfere with your academics...you can always take the ASTB later and that score will prevail, but you'll have to work hard to pull up your GPA. There are alot of people applying for SNA/SNFO, so a 2.5 just doesn't look competitive.

Well I was going to do Biology/Premed, but now I am thinking about doing like a history major or something like that. So pulling up the GPA shouldnt be too hard. Just gotta redo some classes that I didn't do so well in.

Will those classes replace your other grades, or simply be averaged in? You've already dug yourself a sizable hole.

2.52*24 = 60.48 grade pts
4.0*15 (a perfect semester of 15 credits) = 60

(60+60.48)/39 = 3.09 cumulative GPA

I'd be cautious in majoring in something because it's "easier" just to pull up your GPA. Find something you'll enjoy.

The classes will totally replace the grades. It wont average, it will keep the higher of the grades. Oh I do like history. I actually thought about majoring in it, with an emphasis on American History (all americas, north and south), but then I dound out that my brother and sister are going to med school (i'm a triplet) so I decided to check that out.

In the same breath, i'd like to also reccommend you don't major in something just because the Navy thinks it will look good (i.e. Engineering or math). You could end up killing your gpa and hating life. GPA is one of the most fundamental parts of the package, remember that. Any major, so long as it is tangible and 'useful' in nature will look ok to them.
