I am a newbie here on this site with dreams of becoming a Naval Officer. I not going into the aviation but since NFO is my third choice, I have to take the whole ASTB test. My test is coming up in two weeks. I am pretty much done with my application, but I wanted to ask some people what are my chances of getting into the BDCP. Here is my package so far minus the ASTB scores:

3.73 GPA
Prior Service in the Army
Good references

Also, what is the strongest, most beneficial strategy I could take for the preparation of this test in two weeks? Any gouge would greatly be appriciated.

Cant' speak on your chances for BDCP, but only the ASTB strategy.

I'd get ahold of the books that contain not only the ASTB topics, but also practice tests. Study the material in whatever way works best for you, then take the practice tests to see if you are getting it.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the help. I am like stressing out about this test. I really hate standardized tests. I am studying really hard for it though. I just really do not want to blow it my first time.

Navoff,
Your GPA is good. What degree and school? I have been told that Engineering majors don't need as high of a GPA as say a History. Either way, yours is still really good.
As for the test, I only used the ARCO book for the two weeks that I had prior the test. I consentrated on the Navy/Marine section and it helped me out alot I think. Having a good background in early college physics (mechanics) and math (algebra, geometry, some trig) classes was the greatest reason for a good score. If you are weak in any of these areas, I would reccommend getting to work on that section of the ARCO book. I believe math and mechanics are two thirds of your OAR score.
Good Luck, but don't sweat it.

Thanks Bing. My major is in Transportation and Logistics which is a Business degree and I attend the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fl. My university is rated 13th in the nation in Transportation and Logistics. I really have hitting the ARCO book really hard but I have been getting mixed reviews about it on here. I was wondering if there is anything else outthere like the Marine Gouge that is really helpful. I really hate standardized tests and that is why I need all the help I could get.

All I used was that ARCO ocs book. But I do know that more than one question was right out of the book.

ex.
6' man cast a 10' shadow, how tall is a building that casts a 75' shadow?

Plus a couple more. The actual number values were the same on both the book and the ASTB. I reworked the problems just to make sure.

And your GPA from UNF sounds more than solid.

I am sure if you take your time and get the ones right that you know, you will get a good score.

Where do you buy the books?

Where can you purchase the aforementioned books? While the online material is helpful, I find it much easier to devote time sitting down--in a quiet room--with a study guide.

Thanks,
