ASVAB questions

Hey to all. I'm beginning to prep for the ASVAB and was wondering if anyone could offer me a little guidance.
What are good, competetive scores for a potential Marine aviator on the Military ASVAB? What areas (mathematical understanding, language, electrics, etc.) are especiallly important? What scores should one shoot for to be accepted into PLC Air?
Thanks,
fitz

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that the asvab isn't much more than a general inventory of your academic strengths/aptitude and is more relevant to MOS selection for enlisted personnel. OSO's use those in lieu of ACT or SAT scores, but I don't believe they have much weight in the actual candidate selection process.
No less, you'll want to no doubt do well on this test (if memory serves correctly, it wasn't at all difficult) but it isn't critical. As long as you're at/above the highschool level in math and english, you're good to go. Familiarize yourself with basic mechanical machines as well like levers, pulleys, incline planes etc.

The test you will want to bone up on is the ASTB which is more difficult and contains more aviation specific portions. The scores from this one will have more bearing on wether you're selected, although I was told by my OSO that it was basically pass/fail with a 4-5-5 being the dividing line.
That and turning in a solid PFT score (generally above 250) and a good gpa should get you in the door.
Good luck.

Some basic electronics, good bit of engine stuff... all reciprocating (cars). English and math. It's been about 6 years since I took it, so don't expect much from me.

As for why to take it? Oddly, Coast Guard requires an SAT score of 1000, some other score (ACT maybe... is that even a test?) or an asvab score of 109 for OCS. I took it in '99 and got a 98 on it, so pretty sure I could score 109 by now. Think my SAT was above 1000... pretty sure actually. God only knows how one gets hold of those scores....

If you are trying to be an avaition candidate, you need to take the ASTB.
