To submit an OCS package? Im currently a sophomore in college (Have 4 hours left till Junior, and will have them by Fall 08 semester)

My GPA is 2.8 Cumulative (it was a 3.1 or something BUT due inherent laziness and no idea what I wanted to major in, and just general disappointment at myself for wasting time I messed up a bit)

HOWEVER, my major is now Biology, and I'll be starting this in the Fall, and declaring at the end of fall semester. I do not have an NROTC chapter at my school (only Army) so that route is out. I would like to attempt BDCP but I am not sure I will be worth their time even attempting to apply. I would REALLY like to try NUPOC, but I dont know if I can manage to take the year of Physics and Calc when I am already so far behind. I would really like to be on Submarines, but could go elsewhere.

Thanks!

Apply early, apply often. What do you have to lose by applying ASAP for BDCP? Even if they say no, you can still reapply until you graduate and apply directly for OCS.

okay cool! How exactly do I go about applying? Just contact the Officer recruiter?

Is there a list somewhere of all the Physical Requirements? I am pretty badly out of shape (not overweight or anything, actually probably underweight...5'11" 135lbs thereabouts). Id like to start working on that now.

Is there a website that lists all the requirements/duties of specific officer spots? I know that without Calc and Physics, getting Subs would be next to impossible...

You're exactly the height and weight I was when I started applying, and I got accepted - www.navy-prt.com has the requirements for the physical readiness tests. Check out www.navy.mil for general information, and speak with an officer recruiter when/if you want to move forward.

Don't know anything about subs, so I can't really help you with that... but an officer recruiter could. Just make sure that you speak with an OFFICER recruiter.

Finally, make sure you search this site - there's a lot of great information for people just starting the application process.

Schwarti gives good advice. I wasn't in the best shape when I first realized I wanted to do this and now I'm in the best shape of my life.. it's all about motivation.

If you want nuke, your recruiter will love you. But you have to have a technical major. That info is all on this website, just do a search. Specifically BDCP for various jobs, or NUPOC for nuclear.

When I went through MEPS, there was a guy that had been temporarily DQ'ed by the Navy for actually being underweight. He was literally 6'2" 122lbs (I was standing right behind him when he weighed in/got measured).

Want to put on some weight fast? Start eating 5 meals a day. Take whatever you're eating right now and all in another 1,000 calories of chicken/carbs/pasta and LIFT. The three bests lifts you can do are SQUAT, DEAD-LIFT, and CLEAN/PRESS. These all work your core strength and work more muscles in your body than any other anaerobic exercise.

6foot and 122lbs?! Thats crazy. He must have been like a stick.

Man that 500 yd swim is gonna be what kills me. I had to do that for a SCUBA class I took last semester and almost died haha. I have no idea how long it took me though.

I was in Civil Air Patrol for a while, and remember all the basics, and have experience in uniforms (although they were Air Force blues/BDU's). How much will this help me?

Bad gouge! You can get into NUPOC with an underwater basketweaving major as long as you have the 1 year of calculus and 1 year of calculus based physics classes.

Yeah, you're right. I went to an information thing within the engineering school of my college for the Navy my freshman year and I had read about it at the time... I could have sworn that it was only science/tech majors (which this guy is anyway...) but that must have been them talking about CEC and I just remembered poorly.

My bad...

So I am going to call the Officer recruiter tomorrow. Is there anything I should prepare before hand, any information he needs to know that I can have before I call? I have no specific specialization in mind currently. Do I need to make up my mind now or does that come later?

Ive decided to wait for Nuke, mostly because it will be VERY hard for me to get the year of Calc and Physics in while keeping on a timely schedule to graduate. I figure I can take the classes while I am serving and apply for Nuke later on and hope for the best.
