Every aircraft has an "autoland" capability... but it will not necessarily land in one peice.

The ACLS (Automatic Carrier Landing System) on the F/A-18C works so well on the CVN, it will hit the same spot with it's tailhook time and time again.
During OEF, we told Hornet drivers to use this if they came back with an unexpended JDAM, as they were trick or treat on the ball (one look and go tank).
With it working...they landed every time, first time.
They got credit for night currency, but not the OK pass it generated each time.
Watching an ACLS pass is amazing, absolutely rock steady all the way down.
Tried it once in a Tomcat...ugly pass.

Dawgfan- you have that capability in the family wagon?
Is that what we're calling it these days? Actually, I kind of like it.

Anyway, not to crowd into line here, but, ACLS Mode II is technically available in the EA-6, complete w/ auto-throttles, but nobody ever uses them. Other than FCFs, I've only seen them used as a novelty item, and even on FCFs, they're usually so fvcked up that it's kind of novel there too. ;) Not exactly an "auto-land" feature.
