I realize that there are a lot of units out there that keep their marines in the dark (I won't name any directly). I'm not like that and don't understand why someone would be. Hey, the more you know the less you ask me questions. :icon_tong I'm just one of those people that researches EVERYTHING myself before I do it.
I prefer to research everything myself, but that's only because I've learned WHERE to research over the past decade.
Remember, there are all-comers on this site. Some are high school kids who are just intersted in flying, some are college wannabes, some are enlisteds looking to transition, some are SNA/SNFOs, some are operators, some are retired, and one of us is A4s. Not everyone has the same knowledge base, nor does everyone have the experience to know where to look to find the right answers.
Think of it as a PFC asking his fireteam leader how to call for fire. What kind of leader would the corporal be if he just said, "Figure it out yourself?" Sure, the pubs are out there to learn how to call in a fire mission. Though the young Marine shows an interest in something relevant, he simply lacks the knowledge of where such resources are located.
With the exception of occasional "What percentage get jets" query, 99% of the questions are honest questions from that PFC. Before we say, "lock this thread!" or "find out for yourself," let's give folks the benefit of the doubt and help them out a bit. Then they can be the ones who answer the new batch of "What percentage get Space Shuttles" questions.
