Well I'm entering college this fall through my own money (or rather my parents) seeing as how I didn't get the NROTC scholarship.

I just learned about the BDCP program and it seems to be really promising.

I want to try and go for nuke. Whats the earliest I can apply? Beginning of sophomore year as long as I complete the required physics and calculus courses? Also do they consider you even if you've only taken classes at community college? And to my understanding BDCP does not pay for your tuition right? They only pay you E-3 salary...?

Any help would be appreciated.

I can only answer your questions that I actually know. BDCP does not pay tuition, but will pay you E-3 salary, which can be 2000-3000 a month. I use this to pay for my tuition, so the Navy inadvertantly pays it.

After you have complete 30 credit hours (If you are in a technical major, major that require at least 10 hours of physics and I believe 6 hours of calculus) (You have to be 2 years out from graduation to be accepted with any non-technical major)

You don't have to have completed those classes by the time you apply, although you should have at least one of each completed to give the board an example of how you do in those subjects.

No, you can not only have community college grades on your transcipt, you can have them but you must be enrolled in a major university.

Nuke is a different beast from BDCP. It is a program called NUPOC. The first step is to screen for an interview, if you go to the interview, you better be sure you want it, because if you're selected at the interview, you're in. You can't really back out at that point. They tell you right on the spot.

It's better than BDCP in that you get a $10K selection bonus and E-6 pay and allowances.

Unless things have changed, the earliest you can apply is during your 4th semester, and you must have a certain GPA (don't remember what it is), and nothing lower than a B in your technical classes. Otherwise, you can apply during your junior year. Recruiters, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, just because you didn't get to ROTC the first time around, doesn't mean you can't get it during college. Explore your options.

From what I found you are pretty much dead on.

I know. I really don't want to go through rotc again. I was the commanding officer of my jrotc unit and that itself burned me out.

I figured that without rotc I can focus more on my classes.

I still have this first year of college to complete before I decide anything so yea.
When should I start talking to the recruiter?

Anybody in the nuke program or nuke graduates have any comments?

I would talk to a recruiter in the fall of your sophomore year. The process takes a bit, and that should set you up to screen for an interview in late fall, or more likely, in the spring. Basically, you'll need all your paperwork, and then go to MEPS.

NR conducts interviews once a month (the academy guys go in November of thier senior year).

Best of luck.
