Just have a few questions regarding the whole process down in P-cola. I am green side, getting ready to finish up TBS up here in Quantico. After IFS, what are the daily routines down in Florida? I have heard many rumors of either checking in Mon. morning at 0700 and leaving by 0730 for the week while waiting on API. Others have said you can be tasked with a Marine unit. As of now I'm being told Oct. 2010 is about when I will class up. Also, once Primary starts, what does the week schedule on average look like? Is it usual a 9-5 classroom/job or do you have one to two classes a day, followed by a flight sometime during the week. Any input would be very helpful.

Miller spells light with with an ITE...jeez.

You'll muster every day at 0730 or 0830 depending on the day.

You'll have stashes here and there, sometimes it'll be one long 6 month stash, others it'll be 30 one day stashes.

Grey belt is mando. If I had to do again I would do all the ninjy-ing I could do so I wouldn't have to do it again.

Expect to wait 6 to 10 months to class up. It varies widely. I can imagine that MATSG and NASC will put their heads together and try to dynamite the log jam sometime in the spring like they did last year.

Oh yeah, and even though it has been the exact same process for many, many years, the MOC finds a way to make the whole process difficult by constantly changing little things.

Stupid question...do I need to bring my NWU's down to P'cola. I heard you muster in your khakis and eventually will get your flight suit. THanks

Hey guys, hate to be a pest but I am leaving for p'cola in 10 days. I haven't found a place down there yet. Any suggestions? Unfortunately I didn't find any roommates at OCS since I was the only pilot out of the 3 classes, so I will be getting a place for myself. I read on here the wait is 6-10 months? Thats crazy. That will definitely play into what kind of place I am going to rent. Any advice would be wonderful. See you down there.

Perdido Sands Realty. Ask for Ted. There's good stuff there, and Ted is great.

If you really want, talk to Top Gun Property Management, but be warned the landlady is a bit of a b*tch. The houses on Statler and Yellow Bluff are GREAT for single students, I've lived in one for almost 10 months now. $795 a month. House good, company not so good.

Regarding NWUs, may as well bring em, because they are still a part of the uniform issue, though I have yet to see any Ensign or aviation officer wearing them.

I had an apartment at Countrywood for just over a year and liked it a lot. About 3 minutes away from the back gate, pool, work out room, washer, drier, refrigerator, etc. Our 3 room place was $1125/month. About 20 minutes away from downtown Pensacola.

Stop being a pest. Just kidding.

I haven't found a place down there yet.

Being single, at least when I left as an instructor at Whiting, meant that you were probably going to Corpus for Primary. Anyone out there that can verify this? If that's the case, get something close to NASP. If that's not the case, well, then I would probably recommend getting some place closer to NASWF...just a thought from the instructor side of me that had onwings leaving their house at 0415 from the back gate of NASP to make a 0500 brief.

Any suggestions?

Don't fvck it up. :D

NWUs are much easier, IMHO, and the way the Navy's going. Definitely have them ready as req'd. You never know when the command you're showing up to requires the "Uniform of the Day" and it is NWUs....

Sorry for the threadjack (mods split this if need be) but how many here have NWUs and/or planning to buy them in the near future? I have seen a couple people around here in Jax with wings who are wearing them, but I personally can't see a uniform situation in a squadron that would require me to wear them vice a flight suit or khakis. Still, as Chunks said, I want to know my risk of being "that guy" who doesn't have them and should.

Also, are they issuing NWUs for daily wear at OCS now? How about USNA/NROTC units. I know my old ROTC unit now has the new PT gear, but I was curious about the timetable for the rollout at these places for the NWU.

I was told to buy them..

And the exchange still has not had them in Ogre-Size.

(And I'm not paying $$$$ for uniforms that don't fit right. I'll wait until they have them in my size)

NWU's: Might as well get a set, have them sewed up, and then put them away until needed, especially if you're a hard-to-fit size. It's the wave of the future, and as Chunks said, never know when you'll show up to a command and the skipper mandates them for SDO, non-fly days, etc.

I wear mine about once a week, but I ain't flying in this current job. Not a bad uniform, lotsa pockets, comfortable once you've washed them with fabric softener a few times. Big advantage is that you can go out in town in them, and escape the dreaded Subway/O'Club/Golf Course/brown bag lunch cycle.

Some of the P-3 and HS squadrons down here mandate them for Pilots/FOs for non-flying days.
