Why is Navy leadership single-handedly trying to bring back Thomas Jefferson era capitalization?
You know, capitalizing words because they seem important, or you might emphasize them while speaking.

2. Navy's Culture of Excellence 2.0 requires critical re-evaluation
of our policies and procedures to build Great People, Great Leaders,
and Great Teams
while developing Sailors in mind, body, and spirit.
Those aren't proper nouns.

It looks so stupid. It started with "Sailor," now I've seen people use "Officer." Also, please quit it with capitalizing component words when defining an acronym; it's wrong. I get why people like to do it, but it's wrong, and obviously so with acronyms that aren't initialisms. For example, you wouldn't write "TACtical Air Navigation (TACAN)." Embrace the lowercase.

It's not just nitpickery. Unconventional capitalization interferes with readability.

Don't worry, I'll haze myself...

To the actual content of the post... I think I like the new policy, but how many fat bodies are going to collapse while trying to eke out an excellent-low after failing the BCA?

BCA failures had to get medical clearance to run the PRT, at least, back when I was last in The Fleet.

Your capitalization rampage got some resonance here last week. I heard an Army guy ranting to a new check-in, “Stop capitalizing every noun! We’re not writing in German!”

Eh, those same guys were already struggling to eke out a probational so probably no change. I’m just glad I don’t have to magnesium citrate it now to make weight since I easily get in the outstandings.

One of my Marine friends had an alternative idea that I liked. If you failed the weight standard, you were ok as long as you could back squat whatever you weigh. Obviously major execution problems with the idea but from a strength perspective some value.

There's a lot of people over weight but inside bca waist or age body fat standards getting excellent. I don't think there's actually that many failing bca and getting excellent. I think this is a niche policy.

Now i'd really love the reverse - run the prt first, and if I get an excellent I don't have to do bca. Annoying getting my waist measured when I know it's going to be good and I'm going to get an excellent.

I'd just love if the audiology people could adopt a similar change. Every year now, I go back a second time so I can just barely pass enough for them to not "re baseline" me. Next year I have already decided that I'm not going back and will order them to re-baseline me, and probably die on that hill if needed. I have actually noticed hearing loss. It isn't just a bad test. Too bad for them I guess. I wear the foamies correctly under my helmet. It just is what it is. Not gonna waste another fly day of drills a year getting mindlessly retested and somehow "passing", and being a hostage to their stupid rice bowl program that adds no value or readiness to naval aviation.

On a good day I’m a couple pounds over my weight limit but my waist will not pass, so I do horrible things to ensure I’m under the limit. I consistently score in the outstanding range. I definitely need to lose weight (I like beer too much), but this definitely makes my life easier.

I’ve always politely declined the “rebaseline.” It’s a waste of time, and the Occ Health people never have anything useful.

I have a feeling this is at least in part to accommodate the older folks for whom dad-/mom-bod has started to kick in but can still do well on the PFA. And to be honest, once you’re in the over-40 standards bands, scoring an Excellent or better really isn’t that hard if you’ve put any level of effort into preparing.

Nobody asked me, but I really don’t think the PFA needs to have a body composition component at all. It should be done by the Medical folks as part of your PHA, and if you’re out of standards it can be addressed the same way as if your blood pressure or cholesterol is too high or whatever. And I mean, this NAVADMIN is essentially the Navy admitting that there isn’t necessarily a correlation between waist size and physical fitness anyway.

I thought passing BCA before the PRT was intended for the Navy to cover its ass in case ppl have a heart attack during the evolution. This would seem to undermine that.

I had been doing that, but then this year, whatever flight doc I had decided he was going to hold my upchit hostage until I went back. So I think OCC has somehow forced their rice bowl onto the table up here.

That's bullshit, as that part of your audiology exam isn't part of your aeromedical clearance.
