BDCP Desire for Technical Degrees

I just finished my freshman year of college, and am applying to BDCP for SNA. I have heard that BDCP is looking for technical degrees, which I am not. Here is what I have so far for my application:

BS - Finance - University of Illinois, 3.46 gpa
ASTB - 72 OAR, 9/9/9
Flight Hours: 62 with PPL

How big of a disadvantage am I at for majoring in Finance?
How much does having a PPL help/hurt me?
If I am borderline on the ass-to-knee measurement (short), will that be considered in selection?

Thanks.

I think your ASTB scores will shine through. If you want to be a finance major, be a finance major. Don't try to get an engineering/science degree just because you think that's what they want to see.

There are plenty of accounting/communications/music/poli sci/etc. pilots and NFOs out there.

Best of luck on your application.

I have heard that your measurements are pass/fail.

If I finish sophomore year May12th and transcripts aren't available until May 20th, and I put in my application May 21st... any idea when I would find out if I got accepted? I am in Air Force ROTC and would rather not show up to field training if i get pro-rec.

Simply can not call it that close. I would just plan on going to summer training. Just don't take on a commitment to the AF or you will complicate things a lot. As far as the major, don't sweat it. The Tech major thing is required if you are going to be in BDCP for three years. Once you complete Sophomore year you can be any major you want. With your GPA and test scores they won't worry about it.

I sail with an E-2 NFO here in Norfolk on Wednesday nights who got a degree in Music and got in through BDCP.

Just have fun and make the graduation thing happen.

At the completion of AFROTC field training you are then under obligation if not already on scholarship. This is his problem. He wants Navy, but if he goes through summer training is now under Air Force obligation. Could make the whole BDCP process tricky.

I wonder if there's been any sort of significant change in average ASTB test scores.

Based on AW, and talking with other people I know, it seems a LOT of people are getting over 7's on every part of the ASTB with 60+ OARs.

Due to the scoring system being a curved stanine, it is impossible for there to be a change in the 1st three test scores. If people with 60+ OARs became the norm, then they would have 60+ OARs with 5s and 6s.

Beside what usmarinemike said, consider your sample here on AW. There is a lot of great gouge here and the most motivated people are members her. They will do well. As the gouge is refined, the folks that take advantage of it do better. If you look at the population as a whole (the guys that walk into a recruiters office without any knowledge of AW and little about the Navy) you would see no change in scores.
