I have a question. I have read in other posts that API isn't a PCS move therefore, if you want your family to join you it would be your responsibility (money wise) to bring them. I have also read that married SNAs are able to bring their family but they will be on Whiting( refering to a topic on this forum). If anyone has any info on when family members can be moved under PCS orders or any other means please fill in. I know that OCS is first and thats what I should be focused, but I think its a good idea to think about these thing especially when you have a wife and a child to think about.

ocs they will not move your family. you ahve to do it on your own, which is what i am doing. API they will. once you become an officer, they will move you and your family. there are certain things they wont move, like a car and stuff, but they will move you wherever you need to go once you are an officer.

Did they change? This time last year, it seemed they wouldn't allow Navy to PCS until they started Primary. If they have changed, that's cool, because it sure was a BIG help having my wife around to take care of chores while I studied.

Basically, the way they are talking is that you will be promised Whiting if you are married. They ask you when you select which training squadron you want to go to.

I know or have been informed that OCS is not a PCS move. This I am aware of. My question was geared more toward API. I have been getting mixed messages due to the lenght (6wks) of API. Most say that since API is less than 180 days it would be a ditty move payed for by you the member. Thanks for your info guys.

Well, if you look at the time you last posted, you might notice that my response was only five minutes later. So, that probably means it wasn't there when I first started reading this and could not have read your last post. What I was trying to get through, was that the orders you get at the end of OCS will make the difference on whether you can PCS your family depending on if you are guaranteed whiting or not. When I was going through OCS they only gave the orders to whiting to the prior service guys. The others were forced to wait until they checked into API and spoke with the LT there. But, that was almost a year ago and things change.

To settle this: If you are married, they will allow a PCS to Pensacola for API because you will be forced to go to Primary at Whiting. If you are not married or engaged, it's all the luck of the draw.
Good Luck,
Goplay

Anyway, married people aren't forced to go to whiting. It is just an option. One of my MARRIED classmates in OCS and API was sent to Corpus and another to vance. But thanks for settling that.

I appreciate the info guys and wish to apologize to robv182. I find that it's hard to express true feelings through writing. It can, more often than not, come out the wrong way or be misinterpreted by the other party. Thanks again for the information. Just to clarify, I am prior service therefore, I sould get PCS orders to API and will be guranteed Whiting for Primary.

No problem, I have been stuck working in the API office for the last six months, so I have seen a wide variety of things happen. Good luck and have fun in OCS.
